Unhappy This sucks... I hate my life.

I think I have to get rid of my 7...

County ordinances forbid having cars in view of the public without tags, stickers, etc... Parents forbid having a car in the back yard.

I can fix her to drivable condition, but I still wouldn't trust her as a daily driver until I had the suspencion carefully inspected, and possible some things replaced.

My budget won't support insuring two cars and the 7 is the least practical.

My problems aside, I will talk about her. She made mechanical work fun. Usually saturday wrench turning is a chore, but I loved working on her, and would tinker every chance I got. Wash and wax and tinker until dark, slept on her roof, under the stars one night. Not only was she fun in the driceway, but also on the road. Few cars like redline shifts, she loved them. cornered like she was on rails... Always a blast to drive on the highway.

"It's just a car, a piece of metal... It can be replaced." NO! Not to me at least. I dunno why. I don't even refer to her as an inanimate object anymore. Maybe I should seek psychological attention. All I know is that I'm sitting here, bawling like a little girl with a skinned knee because I've run out of ideas on where to or how I can keep her.

On to business, anyone in the Washington DC Metropolitan or Northern Virginia area need a 7? I'm still thinking of ways I can keep her, but if I can't, I'd like to see her goto a good home, not bastardized with a V8 swap or crushed into a cube.

1985 GSL, running 12A engine, functional drivetrain, newish brake pads, 175 k miles on the clock. Sunroof, maroon interior (Passenger area is in okay shape, cargo area is not so good.) Faded silver paint job, except the passenger side fender which is brown. Comes with one spare + shaped wheel (Possible bent though), spare front sway bar and tension rods with brackets too, and steering linkage (Driver's side tie rod, center link, and the dudes that go on the bottom of the struts that hook onto the tie rods.) There is a rust hole on the drivers side under the storage bins, and there is a little rust in the same area on the passenger side. I'm asking $500 if anyone's interested.

I will probably be keeping my 1985 shop manual and Haynes manual as reference for helping you guys. Plus, when I move out in a year or so, I will hopefully be moving into a townhouse with a garage, so not only will I have a place to store and work on a project car, but will have the money to have one too.

Goodbye, I'll miss you Puff - AKA: JM1FB3319F9864998

(Unless anyone has a place I can store a car for 6 months to a year, away from the public, that I can access when I need to.)

My heart goes out to you man, it really does. No way you can throw a car cover over it for the meantime? No way you can just leave it there and hope that nobody complains? There has to be something you can do, you love the thing too much. I think we all understand where you are coming from... There is something to this car that can't be explained. We (or at least I) admit its not the fastest thing on the road, but who cares? Its one of the best looking things on the road. Handles like a dream, better than any other car I've ever owned. For the most part its reliable, and it has a personality. My car is a living being as far as I'm concerned. My girlfriend has accused me of caring more about my car than her... Its not true of course, I love them both the same! Hang in there man, things will shape up. You'll have something to fix up as time goes on and one day it'll be perfectly ready to go cutting up the corners in your little part of the world... Things will always work out, they always have a way of doing that.

Pele, 'ol Pardner,

This is a lot of bull....What's next, pokin' yourself with needles, burning self with cigarettes? C'mon, Son...There's gotta be someplace you can board your hoss till another day...

Tell you what. If you wanna, I'll keep her here at the crib corral, she'd be outside, but under a 7 cover, and warmed up and charged regularly. You might even convince me to do a bit 'o work on her...Heh, heh, heh...
Anyways, out here where the cows have beards nobody's gonna touch her, or probably be able to pick her out from the other 3 silver 1st gens we've got....And when you're ready, you can have 'er back....

Sincerely, Denny, from the 'ol corncrib...

Got any good friends, preferably with an Rx7? (If plates get run by patroling officer, doubtful they will check past make/model, maybe color)

Take the front plate off their's (like anyone uses it) and go to the DMV and say your tags got stolen, $8 later, you got tags and a plate for the rear of your vehicle. Just leave it parked like that until you can move and get it legit. If you feel the need to drive it, take those plates off as that is a big no no.

For a free country, ***** sure are always trying to force there fn ways on others!

My main problem.

Tags aren't really the issue. I took the front tag offa my Honda and stuck it to the back of the 7... Storage is the problem. I dont give a crab about my neighbors really. If they complain, they complain, big deal... My parents are the ones who I pay attention to. (Yep... live at home. College and all, can't really afford a house yet.. maybe when my CCNA comes through next year... I'll have enough to add a garage to my mom's town house. She's retiring and the house is paid off. Translation: No rent required)

I may take ya up on that offer Denny. I believe my friend said he could get somewhere in Ohio by taking Interstate 50 straight out. I could probably make it out there. (I hope... If it comes down to it.)

I've gotta get that tie rod on and I should be golden.

I take offense to that "bastardized with a V8" comment

Anyways, just go to your local self storage place surely you have one, and stick your car in there. It is dry and safe, you can also store other crap in there, and sublease it out to other people's junk. It is cheap to put a car in storage, less than 20 bucks a month. If you sell your babe for only $500, surely you will lose more than $250.

Pele buddy, don't do it!!!

It may seem there is no alternative right at the moment, but there is 'always' a way around any problem. I've held onto my baby since I've been 16. My parents were not always as fond of my silver beauty as I, and never quite understood why I poured so much time and money into her, rather than getting a "nice new reliable car" that they wanted me to have. But they are supportive as hell; my car is stored at my parents' while I'm at school, kept clean and charged up, as well as started up every week by my dad. They see how important she is to me, and help me out.

Maybe you should try to explain to your parents why you love your 7 so much? Help them to understand it is so much more to you than a machine, or a way to get around. If they see the positive side of it, for one thing that you are learning to work on cars and are not out on the street causing havoc, they could be more supportive. This type of car make little sense financially for folks of our age, but people who can't appreciate things past pure dollars and cents own hondas, not sevens.

At the very least, find somewhere to store it, or take Denny up on his more than generous offer. Dude I'd help you out if had my own house or garage. I have a feeling you'd regret a perhaps hasty decision to get rid of her, I'm sure you'll find a way to make it work.

Good Luck Man, It WILL work out!!!!!

Buckaroo...

The offer stands until you decide what to do. My eldest Son, a geographer 'bout ready to graduate from OSU, says: Your outerbelt, 270, to Fredrick MD., then I-70 to Pa. Turnpike at Breezewood. Then Turnpike (I-70 West) to Columbus, Ohio. The Crib is 30 miles North of Columbus just off I-71 North...
About an eight to nine hour drive..

Best to you, Buckaroo

No offense, but don't take this kid's rex and tear it all up.

6-12 months is no time at all, someone hook him up with storage and let her rip the twisties another day.

There's way too many first gens in the junkyard as it is. In Ontario, I see another first gen once or twice a month if I'm lucky.

Thank you all for your support. I've got several suggestions from my friends as well, considering they've come by and seen me and how happy I am, whilst under the hood of the 7, or ridden with me as I tear it up through a nice winding road. It's also nice to know see that none of you have gone and suggested that I seek a shrink. :p

Denny: Thanks a lot for your generous offer. I'm seriously considering it as I have a friend who needs to see his father who lives in Ohio. (Medway or Medville or sometihng like that is the name of the town.) I'm not into that sado-machismic stuff like cutting my self up and all, (I'll admit, "I hate my life" is over exagerating the situation.) I'd just be kinda heartbroken at loosing something that's made me happy and I've already put a lotta work/time/money into... (Why stop now? I've come this far, Why not finish what I started? Ya know...) I'd just feel real bad if I got you in trouble with the law, your family, whoever. I'd already feel kinda bad cluttering up what looks to be, in your pictures, a nice house.

RotoNoMo: I didn't mean offense by the bastardized by a V-8 conversion... It's just I've taken good care of the 12A thats in there and she's never ditched me in the middle of nowhere. The ONE time she ditched me, I shouldn't have pushed her... She woke up cranky and flooded out on me about four blocks from my house. She's been faithful and always gets me through tough situations. (Radiator leaked empty once due to a bad spot weld that blew open on an end tank. Plugged the hole with a screw from a computer I had in the trunk and refilled with less than 3/4 of cooling system capacity of water I could find... Temp gauge never went above half.

SilverRocket: It's my stepmother. (She kinda has the upper hand on my dad, if ya know what I mean.) She doesn't care about the 7, she just wants the property to look nice and the neighbors to stop hassling us. People are trying to sell a lot of houses around here and It's already a yuppie neighborhood as it is. I do feel kinda rednecky having four cars in relatively bad shape (Volvo that I wrecked, The 7, My Honda, and my Dad's replacement Volvo) in the front yard. But two of those are legal and drivable, so nobody can do anything about them.

I will keep this car somewhere. That decision will be made very shortly. And if I have to make the long haul to Ohio, I have next weekend, and the following three days off before I start school. Thanks again everybody, especially you Denny.

Young Buckaroo...

I know you'll do the right thing for yourself. I understand it being your Stepmom' and Dad's house, but it is your 7, and your life. I'm nearly 55 years old, and as ex-law enforcement, I've seen the Hell, and for me it's now time to bring some joy to myself and others. All I can say is there's plenty of time to be the responsible Son, and I'm sure you are. You need to respect your parent's wishes, but that doesn't mean you have to dump the things that define who you are. I've three Sons of my own, and some may say I'm too soft. But it's easy to get tough if you need to be, but you can never be soft if toughness is your general demeanor. Be true to yourself, Son, and you won't go wrong. Meet your problems setting a goal, then proceed with logic, you'll be fine.

As far as the Corncrib is concerned, this is Country, boy. Shoot, people hang engine blocks in trees for Christmas out here. We've got 3 silver lst gens, one red 2nd gen, a Mazda MX-6, a Honda, an old Mazda Protege, and a '67 MG. I kept a friend's '54 Studebaker here for two years! I've got a cement pad behind the Garage where we can park your 7. So I don't want you worrying about my Crib....We're all "car folks" here....Hell, even my wife works for BMW, but I wouldn't have one!

I'm an open option, Son. If you wanna use it, you're welcome. I firmly believe that the good you do comes back double...

A tip of the Stetson,
Denny, from the 'ol Corncrib...
