Stuck Apex Seals 84 Gsl-se
I may have found an engine for my 85' but it has been sitting and the seals are stuck. Just wondering if this can be fixed easily. BTW engine only has 40k on it.
Thanks..

Is the engine locked up (won't turn) or is it that some of the apex seals are stuck compressed in their groove?
search for "carbon lock", "ATF treatment", and "stuck apex seal". That should give you a good start for what you need to do to fix the problem. A stuck seal isn't that bad to deal with. It can just take some time to get it unstuck.

The engine isn't locked up. It was running before it sat for 4 months and now it just won't start. Guy I'm buying it from hit a fire hydrant side-ways and now the frame on the car is f***ed wich is why he is selling me the engine.

Mine wouldn't run when I picked it up. I used a combo of atf and sea foam.Atf first poured down carb while turning engine......then I finally got it running and had my buddy pour sea foam down the carb while I kept it going. Be ready for a smoke show!

i would use some wd40 instead of aft. take the carb/top half of the intake off, and pour the wd40 or whatever you wana use then spin the motor by hand and keep pouring until you know you got every seal then let it sit over night and try to start it. as long as you have enough batt, and spark it will work.

'Ell no. MMO all the way. I did the same process and it restored alot of power and fuel back to my little 4 banger saturn.
MMO for the win, you'll just need new spark plugs after

yes i would reccemend mmo or seafoam, ive had great suscess with seafom personnally though.
Oddly when i bought my fc that had 10k on its rebuild, it sat in the guys back yard for a whole year, hooked up my batt to it and it fired up and ran like a champ.

Anyways off subject, I seem to have got my other engine started but it definitly needs a rebuild. aka rear rotor is not working, carb needs rebuild, and fuel pump went out shortly after starting the car...

UPDATE:
Alright, got the engine swap done...had it running before we pulled it from the other car and right after we hooked it up in mine. Problem 1- high idle 3k-3.5k........
fixed that, Problem 2 - Tried to drive it and got about 15 feet before it flooded and have not been able to get it started since... any ideas?
- thanks again-

deflood it first off plenty of threads on this. make sure the fuel cut of solenoid is pluged in drivers side of carb one wire attached. Verify float level in the center of the site glass. carb may need rebuild.

Check the ignition timing.

yes it is FI and we already tried adjusting the timing...i heard something about when it floods it can cause temporary compression loss due to lack f oil or something of that nature, so any ideas on this subject?

yes the excess fuel will wash off the oil film off of the housing walls and cause compression loss. deflood then put a bit of MMO or 2stroke or (if you dont have the other two) conventional oil through the bottom spark plug hole of each housing. a few tablespoons should be fine.

If it is truly flooded, then all you have to do is take out the plugs and dry them out, either with compressed air or electric parts cleaner. Put the plugs back in, hold the pedal all the way to the floor until it starts. Trust me, this works.

once you get it running rev the hell out of it, not over redline but definitly to redline. the centrifical force will help unstick any stuck seals. premix till you know your getting proper lube.

For deflooding, I dump an ounce or two of Seafoam down the carb. Works great. It also cleans off the spark plugs and frees up the apex seals, so you could be killing three birds with one can...
