Streetport ?? Rough cut pics not 56k friendly
I completed the rough cutting out on the streetports on my 85 12a engine. Dont look too bad for my first time I guess. I'm going to get a polishing kit for my dremel and finish it off. Might add spend the 20 dollars for a die grinder and the 25ish dollars for some bits. Find a friend with an air compressor. took about 1hour and 15 minutes to cut them all out including transferring the template images to the ports. Took 35 minutes with my dremel just to make a dent. This is an Extended Street Port should be lotsa power in my turbo set up.
Question is in the exhaust port should i remove that sleeve? I believe i saw a picture on a web side that the sleeve was not there.

Looks good to me. I am not 100% sure on the sleeve. I think you leave it in there. Also, be sure to put the bevel back on the closing edges of the ports. It helps to make sure the apex seal doesn't get caught on the closing edge. It is discussed by Ito on nopistons porting section. What kind of power do you think you will get out of it?

Looking for 300 hp to the wheels, with the current turbo kit. I just bought a bigger intercooler and I'm looking at another turbo. But, I will be really happy with 300. That way I'll be on the verge of having to replace and buff up the rest of the drivetrain.

Leave the sleeves. You will get better flow with the porting you have done. I second the bevel, without it, all the way around the port, if you don't chunk a seal quickly, they will cetainly wear faster.

Hey guys thanks,
I'm planning on bevelling it when I come back to polishing it, using the dremel for that. It took me about a year to get this far. Lifes other priorities getting in the way. As for the templates I got them off ebay for 25 dollars for intake and exhaust. They were advertised as a Wild Street Port. The template opened the intake port about 1/4" up and 1/8"(little less maybe) down. Exhaust port just opened the hell out of it as you can see.
The bits I got off ebay Titanium Coated. very nice cut through the sideplates very quickly the aluminum was a little slow alot more material to remove.
There is some chrome leaving the area, but on a 120000 mile engine thats to be expected. I checked with Robert, sent him pictures and he advised me the the housing where still abusable. So im pressign on with the project. Figure I might have it all back together by Febuary, if lucky.
Is the sleeve easy to take out? just curious I believe some of the material from the ports might have gotten in there and I really dont care for that flowing thought he turbo.

Looks good for a rough out, but do read up over on nopistons in the porting section. Lots of details will make the difference between a 5k and a 100+k engine. Cut him some slack on the bevel guys, he said its rough cut I would check the template with the plexi method if your not 100% sure of its heritage. Kinda late for that now for the housings, but could save you from total destruction in the long run.
