here are some facts:

The wild life refuge in Alaska would not be a significant source of oil.

I've paid less than a dollar for gas at least once since the gulf war. Petrol is extremely cheap here no matter how you slice it. Just compare prices here to the UK.

Oil will always be cheaper to import - North American economics (unionized larbour, high taxes, cost of doing business) have made certain of that!

Amen. its a simple matter of comparative advantage.

Look, we are eventually going to run out of oil. Yes, people have been saying that since the 1880s but its going to happen. What will happen is a worldwide economic slump in both developed and developing countries. Of course we are aware of that, but the question is, are we taking any preventive measures? No.

I suggest you all read Jane Quindlins(?) article in the latest NEWSWEEK, it pertains to this discussion.. If you have the time.

*edit* whoa I don't want to come off like a major *******. For the browsers, just flip to the last page. The cover is about organic food.

Any views on the published story that Bush is trying to create a Middle East crisis so oil prices rise sharply, so the Texas oilfields go back to full production and lead to improved economic conditions in that state?

Just had to pay $1.05 a litre! Mad Max is becoming a reality. A horse is starting to look more attractive. how many do I need to tow a RX-7?
