offset

The aluminum wheels for the SA are 25mm offset.
The GSL-SE wheel offset is more.

On a 79, do you guys think a 38 offset is too much/little? I'm okay to get the fenders rolled a bit, but I want to know if it is worth it or not.

too much offset

The high offset will cause the wheel/tire to be closer to the strut.
You will need to do a trial fit.
If the wheel clears the strut you might be able to run the high offset wheels but you may need to use a smaller tire to make the "tire bulge" clear.
Since the high offset pulls the wheel in toward the centerline of the car there should be no need to modify the fender lip or to use flares unless you are also going to the huge "wagon wheel" sizes (more than 15 inch).
The Respeed coil over kit will get you a bit more clearance at the lower spring perch.
The Konig Rewinds are 20mm offset in the 15x7 size with the 4 on 110 bolt pattern.

dennis, I have the 15" konig rewinds with 20 mm offset and am going to to get ReSpeeds CO for my '79SA , I am looking at some 205/55 tires with a section width of 8.4" , dia of 23.9" DO you know if they will clear in the front ???? , expect ok on back. I know the speedo will be a little out but that doesn't bug me.

The stock 13x5 rim / tire ( yoko Avid touring) I have has a width of 7.2", dia of 23.3 "but not sure how they compare .

I was thinking of going 16" or 17" at max. I have my surge tank kind of low and wanted to raise the car just a bit, without making space in between the wheel/fender. Only thing is, the bigger the rim the greater the offset it seems. The rims I'm looking at have either a +30, 41, or 44 offset. The 30 were going to be in the front but the +41 or 44 are going to be in the back. Is this too much and would require a spacer?
Has anyone already experimented with this and know how low/high the offset can be before you need a spacer? I don't want to buy the rims and have it end up not fitting at all.

I plan on running 225/50-15 tires on the Rewinds. Should be fine on the rear and should clear the spring perch for the RE SPEED coil overs. If I need to I will run the spacers to get clearance.
I am not sure about whether I will need to flatten the fender lip or roll the fender .
Is there a reason you are going with 55 series tires?

yea , im trying to reproduce the raised white letter look that came with the RWL Bridgestones issued on the car in '79. Hard to find tires for this . The BFG Traction TA's are raised Black Letter and I can paint the letter edges myself. They come in 205/55 and a little narrower 195/55 ( which matches the specs for the stock 13" tire & rim actuallly). I'd prefer to go a little bigger with the 205/55 .
