Stock Clarion Amps
Well this has been on my mind for awhile. Mazda put in two Clarion Amps to go with their system when they made the first gen rx7's right.. well i was wondering if anyone's found a relatively easy to hook the Clarion amps up to an aftermarket stereo... The stock system is amazing and i figured the two amps would power some little 6inch speakers or a 6x9 each quite nicely.

The stock amps (they're attached underneath the rear storage compartments, if anyone was wondering) have an older wiring set-up that isn't compatible with aftermarket decks (stereos). When you change your stereo the stock amps shouldnt have any power running to them... The only way i can think of making the stock amps work is by changing the plugs and such on the end... I know Jim Rothe has a wiring diagram that some-what says what each connecter and such does but at some point i get lost with his diagram. http://www.jimrothe.com/mazda/rx7stereo/index.html

the 45 to 50 watts you mention are peak, the actual (RMS) output is around 20-25 watts, dont know anything about the stock stuff tho. btw, anyonw know if the stock radio or tape deck has a constant power, or only an acc? I know on the 3 prong to the radio one was Illumination, one was acc, not sure what the third is tho? anyone?

I'd bet those Clarions are 25 watts peak. Plus you've gotta pin out the DIN connectors...
