Still cant get the ignition timing right
Ok I have carburated a gsl-se motor. I have tried to set the leading and trailing but the only one that seems to be close is the leading. I can set it at 0 or 5 degrees but when I try to set the trailing I cant get it close to the red mark. I have tried to disconnnect the vaccuum advance and I have also tried to swap coil wires to rule out any possible mishaps on my end. Nothing has made a diference. Any suggestions would be great.

I just went through some timing exercises myself. Have you removed the distributor cap, rotor, and the shield under the rotor to see if the internals under all of that are moving when you are adjusting the pot in and out?
I read a few posts where parts that should have moved under there were frozen causing the trailing adjustment not to respond.
If your ignition is stock, the trailing coil should be the closest to the front of the car and the dizzy cap should have the appropriate marks on it.
If your not sure whether someone went and rewired the coils or made a mistake installing the 2nd gen coil pack (such as I did), I would clip the timming light onto the L1 wire and try adjusting the pot. Observe if you see the timing change significantly. If so then the coil wiring may have been switched... but I think you mentioned that you tried switching the coil wires already... so that may not be the problem....
Good luck.

Make sure that all of the wires are routed correctly. This includes the ignitor, coils, coil wires, and spark plug wires. Start from scratch and follow everything to make sure it's correct. Sometimes things get switched around and you don't find out for months...
