Stereo system advice
I want to upgrade my stereo system. The system in my GSL-SE is stock, classic and in near mint condition, not to mention it actually sounds great.
I want to add a subwoofer/amp and CD Player.
The Subwoofer and AMP does not seem to be an issue as I can add these two components without neglecting the original value of the car.
The problem is the antiquated yet fully functional '80's AF/FM Casette stereo. I do not want to remove its functionality in any way. It looks and works perfectly.
Does anyone have any modification ideas or has anyone tried to add a CD player to a 7 without removing the stock stereo system?
Thanks.

The output of the stock headunit, provided that you have the model with the joystick fader is Line Level.
You can safely patch it into a standard amplifier if you know the proper connections. Look under your storage bins for the stock amplifiers. One is rear, one is front.
That's about all I can provide. Basically I'm saying Yes, it can be done.
I believe there's a pinout of the connectors for the amplifiers around. I forget who posted it.

This might not be what you are looking for but Victoria British sells a stereo and cd player that you could hide anywhere in the car and it works by radio waves. you could leave your stock system in the dash and put this one under the seat or something, just a thought ....Vic

what about a cd changer?

I'd reccommend getting a FM modulated CD changer. I got a nice Sony 10 disc changer for my daily driver for $190. There is no cutting necessary, only two wires have to be spliced into (constant power and switched power) and the FM unit plugs into where your antenna would go, with the antenna plugging into the FM unit. The changer is small enough to be mounted inside a storage bin, so there would be no cutting required there, and it would be out of view from would-be thieves. The control for the changed is connected by a wire, but it's small and not some big, clunky control box. Some models come with a wireless remote, too. Some people say the sound quality isn't as good, but I couldn't really tell a difference. And, if you ever sell the car, it's easy to pull out, and you're not left with some ugly looking, hacked up stock harness to confuse the next owner.
