Steering Question

I just looked at our last special and they were $750 with $235 15:1 racks.
https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-rx-7-1979-1985-parts-101/respeed-stage-ii-rack-pinion-kit-special-910348/
I can do that price again for 3-5 kits. 5+ Kits and I can go to $700 for the kit and $199 for the rack (call it a holiday special )
Lets get a count together of interested guys to see where we start the price.

Hey Billy, this is Ken BTW.... I'm really excited to get all these bits installed!! Looks like I'm going to need one of your FC to FB fuse box holders too.... email me before you ship everything out and I'll paypal you for that too.
Seriously though Alex (DF), you should have no second thoughts, I haven't even received mine yet and and I know it will probably be the single best mod I've done to my 7..... well that and the T04B

I'm also debating on this group buy. Maybe you guys can make up my mind for me. I just bought $1000 in U.S. cash for parts (bushings, shocks, springs) to complete my 2nd gen sf swap, but I think I could be persuaded to use it for ReSpeed stuff. Right now, my issues are:
1) I already bought a pile of 2nd gen shi* including brand-new 4-pot calipers, used manual rack, entire used subframe with A-arms brakes, hubs, steering column. I'd like to use this stuff, since I paid for it, but then again, it still needs bushings, Springs and shocks, which is a pretty penny. Either way, I'd still use the brakes at least, I guess.
2) I'll be putting in a TII motor eventually, which means fabbing mounts if I do ReSpeed, but not 2nd gen.
3) Which would be better for wheel selection? I've heard the 2nd Gen subframe is wide enough that major + offset wheels are needed to fit, but is the Respeed R&P with a ReSpeed BB kit going to be substantially narrower?
I want to run relatively large rims on it: 17s minimum, 18s maybe. Consensus is that 18s look stupid large, but mine's got a kit on it, so I can't tell if 17s will look as big as they do on most cars. the 15s look small, that's for sure.
4) Can the ReSpeed R&P keep the Big-*** Racing Beat front swaybar? I still have one lying around here somewhere...
5) My car was painted recently, and I don't want to have to weld anything if I don't have to. Does the ReSpeed kit require ANY welding? I know the 2nd gen swap has a bit...
Billy, please feel free to push your product on me. I've been in sales, and will see it as information-giving, not product-peddling.

If you swap a FB front cover on to that T2 engine you don't have to fab mounts
It keeps the FB's suspension so the racing beat sway bar will still work (I'm using one on my re-speed steering FB) and you would still have the same selection (or lack of) for wheels. Since you want to go with T2 brakes you will also need the big brake kit that re-speed sells (very nice kit btw)
No welding is involved, 99% bolt in, just some slight cutting/drilling to set up the steering column/shaft

^^^ What he said ^^^
Respeed sells the kit necessary to mount TII Brakes on the FB.
I know he had it on sale not too long ago, for a very good price..
Perhaps they can match the price again if you buy the Rack Kit?

Billy always seems willing to work with us, I'm sure he'll work something out for you guys While you're at it you might as well throw the hollow sway bar on the order too, much lighter than the racing beat one and feels just as still (plus you can adjust it)
I have one on my T2 FB, and if I didn't already have the racing beat one on my 12a FB I'd get one for that too....

I would think that lots of people would jump at this option. I know my next engine is going to be roughly akin to an '89 13b and it would be easier if I didn't have to source a GSL-SE Oil Pan to do it, though not by much.
As for DF's original question: I've got one of billy's rack kits and I freakin' love it. Every time I sit in an FB without one I get less than a kilometre before I begin the sales pitch / bitchfest about how I "Forgot how crappy the stock steering is" and "you really should get a ReSpeed rack in this thing!"

Current sales/MFG load keeps the company pretty busy. In 2011 we will get better and work towards getting back to our new product goal.

Billy,
Could you please be so kind as to highlight the parts that are needed
from a NON-Power Steering Car in order for your kit to fit?
I need to get these parts sorted out, and a little visual representation
goes a long way.
Thanks.

You need part #2, which is the black tube or housing that the steering shaft is inside, and you need the upper half of the steering shaft itself (the steering wheel side of the shaft) that part isn't really pictured in that diagram above since its part of #3 the steering gear itself. Its all on assembly.
The column housing (part#2) basically just slips out of the steering box, and then to get the upper half of the steering column off you need to drill out two plastic sheer pins and it should pull apart fairly easily (if not some heat does the trick)
