Startup problems, probably carb-related
My RX-7 has the Racing Beat DHLA48 setup on it, although it was installed before I owned the car. It works just fine when the engine is hot, but starting it up is a challenge; it takes several tries and a lot of playing with the throttle to get it to run, and it doesn't run smoothly or hold idle until the engine starts to warm up. I think this probably has to do with the manual choke being broken. As far as I can tell, the choke mechanism is missing one of the brackets that attaches to the cable, so the choke cable is completely loose. In other words, I can't choke the carb at all.
From my understanding, the choke makes the carb feed the engine very rich mixture, which helps it run when it's cold, right? So not having a choke is probably bad for the engine, and would lead to start up problems like I described?
Assuming the answer to those questions is yes, where would I go about finding parts and repair information for that carburetor?

i guess look around online, maybe ebay for replacement choke parts.
for now take off the air filter and see if you can push the choke in manually to start up. closing the flap that covers the primary bowl is what creates a very rich enviroment during cold startups. then just flip it back once its warmed up.
i cant imagine its even cold enough to need a choke in austin?

I don't know how cold it needs to be to need a choke. This is my first carburated car. Mostly I'm trying to solve my hard start problems, anyway; if the choke isn't likely to be the issue, then I'll just ignore it for now.
Info that should have been in the last post: it's an 81 with a recently rebuilt engine.
