Starting my TII to FB Swap
Been with this Fourm for about two years now and finally decided to do,a TII Swap on my SE... In other word waste some money!!!!
Just looking for a little help to ease my TII swap and alittle piece of mind about the engine wiring. Whats the bare minumin wiring i must do to get her running...... i dont need A/C, power sterring...
Now this is what i have so far..... Its a complete J-Spec S5 TII, Trans, ECU, and Engine wiring harness. I also have the coils, and SE oil pan and SE front cover...
I will be getting ..a drive shaft made, AFM, Throttle cable, and Pressure Sensor very soon... Is there anything i have missed?

Try reading this. If you have the ecu and all the wiring then it is pretty straight forward. I will be doing this when I come back from my 6 month cruise so with in a year. Keep us updated.

Start some searching,Im not feeling like explaining the whole electronic OMP thing again......
The wiring isnt hard if your competant and know what your looking at.....about 12-15 wires on the left side....the right side is plug and play.
DO NOT cut onto the FB's wiring harness,theres no reason for it,the TII engine will work just fine on its own harness' if you do it right and incorporate an FC underhood fuse box and main relay.
The OMP is the catch for a S5 TII swap.....

Thanks for the advice, I was planing on going premix, it seems to work out good that way.
I'm sure i have a good idea about everything, except the coils.... i'll be studing that FSM.. thanks

If you have a S5 FSM then you cant go wrong.There is one page that will explain it all.....page F2-8......thats EVERYTHING,all youll need to make the stock ECU work.
If you run premix, then an SE front cover is fine,just block off the OMP pad.But youll have to keep the big electronic S5 OMP plugged into the harness to keep the ECU happy.Itll go into limp mode if the OMP isnt plugged in and working.You can plug it in and tie it off to the side securely somewhere. Kinda ghetto,but it works....I choose to modify the SE front cover to accept the S5 OMP.It cost a few bucks,but its factory reliable and I like to be thorough and smog compliant.

Didnt have the OMP modified,I had a machine shop build up the pad on the SE cover,then machine it flat and drill/tap the holes to accept the S5 OMP.
Basically,you just duplicate the S5 front cover's OMP pad on the SE front cover.Any machine shop that is competant with working aluminum can do it.Just need a TIG welder,a mill and a drill/tap set.....not hard at all.I would have done it mayself if I had a TIG welder of my own(MIG only,and I dont like MIG welding alum.)
It only cost me 175 bucks and took a week or so to get back.Im not sure if the shop that did it is still around,it was several years ago.Like I said,any decent machine/fab shop could do it,just give them the SE cover,the S5 cover and the S5 OMP and explain it very simply....

I've searched and cant find.... Do i need to use the fuel pump resistor relay...... I can't even find where it connects to. Does it go to the S5 front harness (which i dont have)... I only have the Engine harness. thanks for any info...

Some Progress...
Just a little up date.. my S3 engine is out and tuesday ill be putting the 13bt in...
here's a pic of the OMP mod that i did .... alittle different than others. i just drilled a hole into the S5 OMP so it would bolt to the SE ront cover... then i drilled and tapped new holes in the front cover to accept the S5 OMP in the rear...

Lookin' good.
Thats pretty much everything I went through with mine.
I hope everything works out alright with the OMP,just go easy with those little bolts and the aluminum cover.....studs might be an even better route.

Engine and tranny are in as of 6pm tonight!!!! i just have to connect all the hoses and wiring now!!! i hope to have it running by the weekend!! wish me luck! i'll post pics tomorrow

Man kind of wished I would have went ahead and converted my first gen a few years back after one of my t2's got wrecked. Now I got a first gen shell a lot of t2 parts and a grand dream for a 20b hopefully someday. when I revist the first gen a boosted first gen would be fun.

PICS!!! S5 TII Engine is in!! YES!!!!
Well i have the engine in! I installed the engine and tranny together! They fit in no problem. Used SE front cover and SE tranny brace. I didnt do the shifter mod on the TII tranny, so i had to trim away some of the shifter tunnel (only about an inch) because the TII tranny shifter housing is longer than the SE.
To mount the tranny i used the SE tranny brace. I just compared the two and drilled a hole where it looked like it was in the center, then bolted it right in.
Completed alot of the wiring today! i hope to be done by Sunday!!
Just a quick question what plug wires fit the TII fb best?

NIce Estevan , I've been reading up and planning mines too. the only problem is I dont have a 1 gen sheel to do it..LOL I have a T2 sheel for tradew/ extras but no one is interested. Soon I will though. through my research I was going to use the stock ecu as well but from so many opinions(and who knows when I might hit the lottery to upgrade the turbo) I will be going Microtech when I do mine. its plug and play and I heard around 250 to the wheels w/ stock turbo. good luck and you guys are killing me softly w/ all these FRANKENSTEINS being built._erik montalvo
