starting hard now

still having some problems and ive been playing with the idle mixture screw and idle speed screws and cant seem to fix it....ever since the air pump removal its been starting hard, before it would always start right up on the first or second crank but now it needs LOTS of gas pumping and wont start with the choke on, the choke has to be pulled on as soon as it starts to keep it runningand once shes warmed up it runs like new...whats going on?

if i knew it was this much of a PITA i would have just left the air pump on but im getting a header and replacing my cats with mufflers soon. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks all

how new are the spark plugs, fuel pump, and fuel filter and when was the last carb rebuild? you should never have to play with the mixture screw. you've nowopened a whole new can of worms with that. getting it set for proper emissions will be tricky..the idle screw has noting to do with hard starting, so get the idle set back to 750-800rpm and be done with it.

the RX-7 can have a tough time starting in colder winter climates, so keep that in mind. the rotary does not like the cold.

This all started when you removed the air pump, right? You have a huge vacuum leak somewhere...

+1 i agree with you, i still think the blockoff plates are leaking but ive been spraying ether on it while idleing and it isnt sucking any in so i could be wrong. what gets me if after it first starts it runs beautifuly with not a miss or studder and all the power in the world.

and yes it idles at 750 rpms and the idle mixture is right now

i know cold is not an issue because its been acting teh same in a 80 degree garage than outside in -20

Can you post some pictures of your vacuum lines and blockoff plates?

How's the timing?

ah its put away for winter and we just got dumped on so it will be a while before i get her back out, but i dont see why the timming would be off now, its always been right on ever since i bought it, my biggest bet is the block off plate is probably the culprit but well see
thanks for the help kentetsu your a wise man so ill pm you if im still having troubles when i pull the rx out this spring
