Starter Wiring

Ok simple question...On the starter there are two wires with eyelets. One fat one (negative I believe) and a skinny black w/ yellow stripe (positive I believe) which one goes on the left and which one goes on the right.

If you're looking from the bottom , from the transmission forward, the one on the left (the big fat one) is from the positive post on the battery. The one on the right (the small one) goes to a fusible link and then to the hot start relay.

I'm speaking from experience with an '85.

Hmmm...maybe I wasn't clear. I thought I had some good pictures, but can't find them. If you are looking from the bottom, from the rear of the car, the fat one is on the left (away from the engine, toward the fender well). The skinny one is on the right (toward the engine).

The fat one on the starter (on the left post) connects directly to the positive ( + ) side of the battery. The fat one on the negative ( - ) side of the battery goes to ground.

What year car do you have? Maybe they are different, but I doubt it.

1983 gsl. I have one fat wire that i can see that goes to a post, and then a skinny wire that goes to a post, and then a skinny wire that goes to the flat connector.

There is no ground connection on the starter.

Positive from the battery goes to the post on the left and the trigger from the ignition switch goes to the blade terminal.

The thin wire on the right post goes to the hot start relay. If you've removed the hot start motor you can get rid of that wire.

I thought the ground connection went to the engine side of the starter bolt? The positive lead from the battery goes on one post, the "hot start" wire goes on the opposite post. Then the "starter button" wire goes on the center connector.
The positive wire post is the the post with no nuts or connected wires on it.. Not sure if it's left or right... The "hot start" post has a bridge wire or something going to it..

Anyways, that's how I wire them.
