No, we aren't and I apologize for putting that in here. I was trying to see if the two issues were related and, fortunately, they were not. It was a fuel issue (trash in the lines) and a seperate loose cable issue. Both are fixed and she's running fine. Thank you dblclutch for the info on where to put the extra filter.

Glad to see you got it going again.
That secondary filter can really help keep crub from getting into the carb. One car I revived for a freind, he went thru 6 filters at the rear, and 2 by the carb, before *most* of the crud was finally trapped. He still runs the dual filters, and there is occasionally stuff that shows up in the one by the carb.
All of that was after flushing the tank, and all the lines, 3 times or more.

Having a spare filter is a good idea.
That car I was talking about, had sat for 10 years, or longer. It was basicly a "Worst case scenario".
I only know it was sitting for at least 10 years, because the state DMV had no record of it, and they can go back up 10 years in their computer, without having to contact the main office. We had to contact the main office........

I hate to thread jack, but help a noob?
I decided to start my car yesterday after letting it hibernate for the winter and after a few goes she started up just fine. I let her run for 5 minutes before shutting her down (no insurance yet). Then I go out today thinking everything will work as it did yesterday... and she wont start. The starter turns over... but it just won't get going. I get a few pops but can never hang onto them.
I've got a charger on the battery right now... but that hasnt seemed to solve the problem.
Bad battery? Bad gas? Bad connection? No fuel? Help please???

ps. for the record I'm running a sterling carb fueled by a carter pump, and I have the 2nd gen direct fire ignition without transistor trick.
