Squeaking from engine bay only while moving (starting to become while still).
While replacing my clutch my air pump seized. I removed the belt to it and didn't plan on replacing it because I have no cat anyway. Since then I have noticed an intermittent squeaking noise coming from my engine bay. It is complete unrelated to driving conditions, turns, speed, breaking, etc. It does not happen in reverse and never happened unless moving until today when I heard a few squeaks while in a drive through. I replaced the other two belts (alternator and ac) as they were very worn and it is still squeaking. I tried removing the AC belt as it sounded like it was coming from it and it continues to squeak.
It sounds like a belt is squeaking but currently I only have the alternator belt on and I'm still getting the squeak (alternator belt is tight).
I get out of the marine corps tomorrow and am driving home from California to North Carolina, this is the only thing that worries me and I am at a loss as to what it could be and if I should be worried.
I even took it to a mechanic bit it didn't squeak when he was driving it.
What do you guys think could be wrong?

Removing the air pump can cause the water pump belt to slip and cause this sound. Either replace the air pump or get a double alt pulling and run two belts. I'm running a double pulley on my REPU and still get the noise.

I don't think I have time to put a dual pulley on. Would I be able to just pick one up at a parts store? Also should I be concerned about making this cross country trip the way it us right now?

Probably won't be able to get one at a auto parts store.stock up on as many belts as you can and carry the tools with you. Before I had a double sheve pully I was eating belts every 50 -100 miles.

I would say if your close to racing beat in California go and get a double sheve pully to be safe. You may be fine going that distance or have bad luck like I did. I've heard of some people going a while on a single belt. You can also try the "yoohoo" belt (search quick) but I my self did not have great luck with it.

If the air pump seized, you can open it up and gut it and just keep the pulley in tack. This will allow you to keep the tension on the belt. Whatever you do, do not try to compensate by over tightening the alt belt. This will cause the front eccentric stationary bearing to wear and cause bigger issues.

This thread will tell you everything you need to know about taking the air pump apart.

Thanks for the link. I don't have time to do that before I leave unfortunately. The belts show no signs if wear after 50+ miles so I am going to pick up an extra one and just keep an eye on its condition as I drive. Thanks for all of the help.

Engine compartment chirp noise
This may or may not be the problem, but I and my mechanic discovered on my 1994 RX-7 that the hood latch can occasionally cause a chirp (even when stationary).
The chirp came and went periodically.
The solution was to completely grease the mechanism.
Hope this helps some of the people having the problem....
