Springs Thread

Ive searched the archives, ive searched threads but I can't find any posts about what kind of springs you have and how you like them.

Im sick of my suspension setup, it rides way too hard for me. Since now I have dedicated race cars, I want to put a less aggresive suspension setup on my car.

I don't want stock springs back in, I want something moderate that still rides pretty nice, without giving me enormous wheel gap.
Options?

Racing Beat
Racing Beat fronts/ Eibach Rears
Suspension Techniques

Thanks

Too low

I have Eibach pros on both the 1st and 2nd gen. The 2nd has AGX adjustables with oem bushings, the 1st has Illuminas with all poly bushings and ST sway bars. The 2nd is a bit thumpy, stiffer than I really want for a comfortable DD. The 1st is like a skateboard, very stiff, nimble and the rear end does bottom occasionally, even with the bump stops trimmed 3/4". Both cars have the shocks set at mid-range.

For what you want, they don't make, stock spring rates, lowered, then add adjustable shocks/struts. Coilovers might be the best oprion.

Btw, how did you get your's lowered that much, or are you playing with us? My Epsilons don't tuck anywhere near that much under the wheelwells.

i have the eibach/ground control setup with 175lb springs in the rear with 5 deadwound coils. i didn't cut any off. and with 15x7 enkei mesh +7 offset there is about a 1 1/2" gap between the tire and the top of the wheel well. im probably going to cut 2 coils if i stick with those wheels in the rear. its not stiff at all. actually i haven't installed the fronts (2 1/2" id eibach's with the GC coilover perches) yet...and the rear is barely stiffer than the stock front. just waiting to buy new koni reds for the front then i'll install the coilovers

aren't racing beat springs the more stiffer ones (springs only)

eibach's are a little sloppier i think but don't quote me

in australia they have "king" springs that i believe have a 2" drop compared to our RB and eibach 1"

King springs are about the equivalent to my Neuspeeds. Yeah Scott, thats a photochop above, my car sits a little higher than that. I don't want to put coilovers on this car, it has too many miles on the chassis. If I build a 1st gen it will have low miles and I will go all out. This is just for the street car/ not track car anymore.

I'm interested in this thread also, my 84 GSL street car needs some freshening but its not the race car either so I want a nice comfortable but capable ride.

I have 2.25" lowered front and 3.75" lower rear Couldn't tell you the spring rate though. Rides well considering the height of it.

If only you could get the stance below happening CC

suspension techniques are cool for thier cheap price....i dont have any complaints except for when i dont go super slow over speed bumps(the front will bottom out), i have tokico blues too........the springs are suppose to be stock until you steer, then they jump up slightly in spring rate.....they make the car body neice and level too....i would like stiffer rb springs cause i dont have racecars.....

What rates did you spec, I have Aussie contacts still so can get them brought over. How would they be for everyday driving, I probably don't want to go as low as you as I drive a LOT of miles in it.

Steve,
A 1st gen that low isnt going to be a good daily driver without coilovers. I know that danny (web777) bought some honda type coilovers on ebay and made them fit on his FB, and from what Im told, it rides very nice.

Carl, those guys will build what we want, maybe we can spec our own rates and height and order a set just for regular drivers.

Did anyone actually answer which springs ride the best for a street car?

I was running a Illuminas with GC ground controls coil overs and Illiminas/GC coils in the rear. I was in pain after the annual hang-over run at the canyons. I put back the tokico blues with cut tokico springs in front and the set the rear illuminas to *3. MUCHO BUENO

From memory they offer standard type colis, heavy duty coils and super heavy duty coils all with different wire widths and spring rates. Mine are definitely not as bone shuddering as Superlow king springs. Only minor setback is that Aurora won't make lower than 2" from stock height but they will reset them to your exact required height (to the mm) If you shoot them an email I'm sure they will be able to give you specs.

Yeah, I figure a minor increase in rate, say 10%, with new quality springs should be enough for everyday use, combined with good shocks and bushing upgrades I will ride nice and comfy with just enough pizzaz. Ride height is less important about 1" is what the stock springs have sagged by now anyway...lol

No one directly posted an answer to my question on springs.

What is a good compromise all around?

Racing Beat
Eibach
Suspension Techniques

PICTURES WOULD BE HELPFUL TOO!

I run RB Springs and KYB GR-2 shocks. I find it to be the perfect compromise between performance and comfortable ride.

When I originally chose my suspension setup, I knew that I wanted something that offered a performance improvement over stock, but I also knew that my car was a daily summer driver, and I wanted to be able to take my g/f out on Sunday cruises on the mountain roads without injuring internal organs (they don't pave the roads that well up here).

You can feel everything about the road, but it doesn't *hurt* to feel it. So far I haven't had any negative comments from passengers, though many of them mention that they can sure feel the road more, I ask them what they think about it and they say it's kinda fun. So no complaints, and I tell ya, the performance is nice too.

Now seeing as it's midnight and I don't have the car up on stands, I can't snap pictures, but I can tell you that they look great, they're a good compromise, and you can get both the RB and the KYB through Mazdatrix (if you want to make one order in one box from one place).

As a matter of fact I like them so much, I'm placing an order on Friday for my friend Joel's Car

RB + KYB = The r0xors

Now assuming you don't change your shocks, your experience may vary, but if you've got tokico blue adjustibles then you're all set

Jon
