Springs or Shocks
Hello all!
I'm looking it update the suspension on my fb and I don't have thousands of dollars to spend. I have came up with a few options as to what I can do. I daily drive my car in the summer and enjoy spirited driving on bumpy and pothole ridden Michigan roads. Id also like to go to the track at some point or do autoX. I dodge potholes and bumps and avoid bad roads so comfort isn't the biggest deal for me, but i would like if my back didnt hurt after a 10 minute drive![Lol](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/lol.gif)
Here are the options I came up with
Tokico blues with B and G springs
Tokico blues in front, Illumina in the rear with B and G springs
Illuminas on all corrners (way over budget but I want the best bang for my buck)
I also would like for the car to sit a bit lower!
Thanks for the help!

I'm not understanding your budget constraints. Just Illuminas all around would be $640 which you say is "way" over budget. Springs and blues would be $610.
That being said, if you're running OEM springs then great shocks aren't going to do much for you. Springs and blues would be my vote.

I was trying to keep it all around the $500 mark. The reason the illuminas are way over is because I'm only getting shocks at that point. Although mixing blues in the front with illuminas in the rear with springs technically costs more, I'm getting springs too. I'm just not sure if that's worth an extra $100+ and only getting adjust-ability in the rear.

Don't know about B&G personally. You could find info around the web and figure out what brand works for you. I based my prices of RB's site so if you're getting a better price on the shocks then that makes it better. As far as mixing Illuminas and blues I have no experience but don't see an issue.

Thank you for your help! What springs do you have experience with? They all are around $200 but what are your favorites? I like to order everything from the same place. But if you know that some are better than others, it may be worth ordering from somewhere else.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Hey thanks a lot man! I think I'm going with blues and springs. I'm gonna try the B and G's because i like the idea of progressive rates. It seems to be what I'm looking for.

new springs , old shocks
I have a broken rear spring and am planing to buy the Racing Beat set of 4 and start by replacing the the 2 rears. My shocks only have a few hundred miles on them so, is there any reason not to install the new springs over them (I can't afford new shocks right now). And can anyone tell me from experience how they've found the Racing Beat springs to perform?
Thanks, Steve

Racing Beat springs are a good fit for 1st gens. The set will lower the car slightly which will improve cornering. The ride will be firmer than oe springs.
I understand you have to replace a broken spring but you should install the full RB spring set for car to ride/handle properly.
If your shocks are that new, they will be fine.
What kind of shocks are they?

Thanks for your reply! It's a 1993 (sorry, I should've said) 3rd gen. I don't know the brand, Dave Barninger (of Speed 1) a legendary 7 mechanic, took them (he said almost new, like 150 mi.) from another customer's car who was upgrading. They can't have more than 300 or 400 mi. on 'em.
So, you think they're also good for a 3rd gen?
Thanks again, Steve
