Spindle Question
#2
Hmm.. I've owned five SA22C RX7's, covered over half a million kilometres with them, but dude - I have no idea what a "front end spindle" is. Maybe it's because I'm from a different country - but could you please elaborate?

I'm going outside with the tape measure to check on this now. I'm replacing my damper/spindle assembly and the donor car was an 84 12a for my 85 se.
I thought for sure that all 84 and 85 DAMPERS were interchangeable regardless of 12a 13b models and even right or left side. All you need to migrate to your new damper/spindle is the brake calliper mounting bracket. You may also wish to keep your strut cartridge and coil spring.
I haven't checked the length of the damper and the spindle. I'm not quite there on my repairs but all the parts are there.

Well I just came from measuring the damper and the spindle. They are the same for SE and 12a. Unless the difference between the two is very, vey small. I used a regular tape measure outside, in the snow.
As for the whole strut assembly being longer or shorter, that is a function of the coil spring and the strut cartridge insert. I measured just the damper from the bottom to the bottom of the coil spring.
I Searched the MazdaTrix suspension and brakes sections and cannot find a spacer as Steve Shulz
mentions. Maybe Steve can give us more details.

I must have been thinking pre 83, Ive got an 81 that I was going to swap over to GSL-SE rotors (for wider rim election) and I know there is a difference there (sorry if I put you on the wrong track). The strut assy- at least the cartridge insert is longer. You could always check http://www.iluvmyrx7.com/1stgen/manu...%20CHASSIS.pdf The part numbers are different for the damper and other items of that year.

Damper part numbers are different for 84/85 because the calliper mouting brackets are different for SE and 12a AND right/left side.
I always thought that you could upgrade to 84/85 suspension and brakes if the damper/calliper mount, and brake line is replaced, but I really don't know.

Ok, So all the work was complete and it turns out that the spinle\damper from a GSL-SE is a little longer. Than the spindle\bapmer on a GSL of the same year. It was'nt the spindle it was the Caliper bracket. Thanks for all the help...
