I locked mine at full advance with a couple of pieces of aluminum and some jb weld. If it breaks from full advance all it will do is retard...much better than breaking and going to full advance.

Well today after the healthy double fish, I took on the throttle cable bracket.
I think it did clear my mind Jeff. LOL I'm a junk food addict. Just means more time at the gym.

It really doesn't matter where it's locked...the point is you don't want any mechanical advance. You still set your timing to wherever you want it at idle, and it stays there. But since it's locked in the "full advance" position already, it'll never advance any farther than that, even if it breaks. Is that a better explanation? I'm not good with words sometimes.

Got a question for you and 84 stock:

Where are you guys getting brake booster vacuum, boost gauge vacuum, and fpr vacuum from?

On my lower manifold there are two what I think are m9X1.25 tapped holes.
Is that where you guys are hooked up to?

Those holes are actually 10mm x 1.25 supposedly for OMP fittings like the ones on EFI rotor housings. There should be one little 1/8" NPT fitting on the lower manifold which can be replaced with a fitting for a boost guage. The brake booster vacuum should be drawn from a nipple directly below the carb, or possibly at the bottom (throttle body) of the carb. FPR vacuum, if it's actually needed, could probably draw from the brake booster source; you'll need to confirm this.

Ok, I just reviewed this thread a little and I see you have the Weber type kit instead of the Holley square flange kit. In this picture of the CODEBLUE car, I've circled in green what appears to be the FPR fitting. As for the brake booster souce, I don't remember what they did.

Yea I'm using a Holley 650 double-pumper, and it has a fitting in the carb base under the secondary float bowl that I'm using for the brake booster. I don't know what FPR is...I was assuming it was Fuel Pressure Regulator, but that doesn't make sense to me in the context of your question. For the boost gauge, Camden told me to use the port in the attached pictures.

Rich, post more of those pics so I can study if you can. I will be hooking up the fuel pressure regulator (FPR) and boost gauge to that port. Funny how I did'nt see that port. Got to check it out. The regulator has a fitting for vacuum like on CODEBLUE's regulator in the pic that Jeff posted.

Jeff, Thanks for clearing up what those two holes are for. I thought that the brake booster source had to be boosted pressure. I have 3- 1/8" npt opened ports on the top manifold that I could possibly use if my thoughts are wrong since Rich's is not hooked up to boosted pressure.

OK, so I see that 1/8" port on the manifold. Jackasses put it right under the blower not like on Rich's pic. No wonder I didn't see it. That's going to be hard to get to.


On CODEBLUE's pic the red circle represents where his brake booster is hooked up to. I don't have those ports including the green circled one. Looks like he must of drilled and tap for those. I can do that.

I run my brake and boost vaccuum from that port on the lower intake. I did not lock my distributor, I set it at factory setting but with the vaccuum hooked up, this way the vaccuum will counteract the mechanical advance under boost as a retard mechanism since it pulls vaccuum from below the charger.

84 stock, got a pic of that? I thought that port was too small to run the brake thru, so I tapped in for it on the manifold. I dunno about you guys, but getting a 1/8" 90 on that port was a pain in the *** on my set up. I had to grind the crap out of it inorder to be able to screw it in.

Good deal on the distributor. Is that boosted vacuum also?
