Smoking after start-up!
Hi guys and gals, I have a question. I have a 85 with a 12a I just installed a RB system and did not replace the air pump belt. The car has been sitting a year. I bought a new battery and she started right up!!!! Then I added some oil while she was running, all of a sudden tons of smoke!!! Would someone know what this problem is related to? Thanks!!

This car never used to smoke I just think its weird that after it was running awhile ,then I added a quart while it was running it started to smoke. Will this subside?

Sometimes when adding oil when running, the oil gets sucked into the crankcase ventilation tube, connected to the oil fill and will cause smoking for a few minutes.
When the car sits for extended periods with a worn motor, oil will leak past the oil control rings and smoke for several minutes after starting. It's a sign that the oil control o-rings are deteriorated. Don't be surprised if this happens regularly. The motor can run for many 1000's of miles with this. Mine has done this for over 90,000 miles.

Worn oil control rings......Lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer (use two quarts in place of oil) can help with this.
Also, are you sure you did not overfill the system?

OK! I think was a little "overfilled" ...so I did an oil change using only 1 gallon of Castrol 10W30. It's smoking much less but still is smoking. I remember about a year ago during heavy downshifts it would shot out a good plume of smoke . What do you think might be shot? Also, are the o-rings you are speaking of the rings on the oil cooler or somewhere else? Thanks!

No, they are internal (oil control rings) and you will need a full rebuild to fix it right. Smoking during downshifting is the most obvious clue.
Like I said, if you're not ready to do a full rebuild, then try the Lucas. The stuff is plain awesome in my opinion.... Mine was smoking so bad on deceleration that I was sure I would have to rebuild it ASAP, but after adding the Lucas it is no longer even an issue. Now I can wait until I am ready for the rebuild (like when something major goes)... 193,000 miles and counting...

Don't worry about it smoking on start up after stitting for long periods of time. mine has been doing it for 10 years! and 100,000km with no problems. My car tends to sit for very long periods of time. When run every few days or once a week, no smoke, if I let it sit longer then I get smoke, just for a few seconds
