Smokin ... oil leak?
Ok, I may sound like an idiot, but here goes:
A couple of weeks ago, I bought an 82. A buddy of mine needed help, so he's been driving it (I haven't even driven the damn thing yet!). Last night, when he rolled up, the friggen car is smoking from under the hood - like a lot of visible smoke, and it smelled like burning oil.
He acts like it's no big deal, but I'm thinking that can't be a good thing, right? He says he'll work on it in a week or two, see if he can find the problem, but I'm kinda not so confident here, ya know?
Any tips here? Where to start looking for the leak, etc.?

if it has the 83-85 beehive oil cooler in there i bet the oil cooler o rings are leaking.
otherwise might just be leaky Oil metering pump on front right of engine or the oil lines if it has the 79-82 style oil cooler. trans could be leaking and getting on the exhaust pipe.
just follow the smoke!

You not getting enough answers, darling? It's a pain when you don't feel any loving, huh? I just had to do a bump on one of mine too.
I'm going to take mine down to a self-car wash place. Hose the engine down with Greased Lightening (carb cleaner or whatever) then use the pressure hose to spray the gook off.
Then I'm going to look for leaks. I don't know about this beehive thing. It's easy to see and should stick out like a sore thumb. My bet is the front cover thing. I think that's what my problem is.
