Smoked Lenses
Hey guys, I finally was able to get some Nite-Shades and smoke all my lights out the other day. I'm just now being able to get pics so I thought I'd share. I'll get some night pics later tonight. And just for the record I can make these to order for anyone who's interested. Enjoy

The side marker lights, front markers, and the little square in the rear lenses are reflectors, so others can see the car at night, even without those lights working. These are federally mandated.

You went too dark, which most people do the first time. And painting the reflector is being totally ignorant of safety.
Go find my widebody thread. My brake and turn lights show up better in the daytime now, than they did stock.

Wow, I was thinking about doing this for a while, because I thought it would look awsome matching with that center piece. While it does look sweet, those lights are wayyyy too dim for me to feel safe with them. Maybe you should get some good LEDs and pop them in there, now I think I might do that before I decide to smoke them if I choose to.

Looks familiar... I did mine way too dark as well!
If I were you Id wetsand those with some 1000 grit sandpaper and then give it another shot...using about half the coats.
I always thought of using LEDs but would that do much better than the stockers, I know they last longer but would they shine though dark lenses like these?
I am considering a custom LED setup..but I cant see anything less doing the trick..

If yo uget the right type of LEDs, (some of hte more expensive ones) they will turn out significantly brighter than stock bulbs. I forgot all what was involved in choosing good LEDs that would actually turn out brighter, but I know they can if you buy the rights ones, just look at some of those newer mercedes tail lights, they are practically blinding to look at sometimes.

Actually they aren't too dark. You can see the light better in person that with my camera. I always make sure all my lights function properly, but at night I never park on the street so I don't need to worry about the reflectors. The regular taillights are a little hard to see in the day but the brake lights actually shine through nicely. At night you can see everything perfectly. The only reason you can't see the right turn signal so well is because of the angle I was on. I actually was considering LEDs for future use though. Keep the thoughts coming guys!

Whenever the sun shines directly on the back of the car, you cant see squat. It actually sorta bothers me lately...and this is the one car I definately dont wanna see get smashed up...

Right, I almost creamed some asshat, my car loaded with kids, because he blacked out his entire ******* car, including the interior lights. Butthead opens his door right in front of me, at 75 mph, he's not even pulled all the way off the interstate, and I couldn't even see his car.
Get a clue, it's nice that you don't park on the street at night. Will you never, ever break down at night?

dude , nooo....... you dont dare color the reflective lense. its illegal if you do. you better buy a bycycle lense to put on there. but if the headlight doesent reflect, no one can see you.

It looks good for a show car... but let's face the facts. We drive first gen rx7's, we are not meant to be show cars. We drive rather ugly cars to the majority of people out there. Function should come way before all else, and those tail lights are definitely hazardous.

Well I've got some night pics for anyone who really cares. Oh and before you start really sinking into the whole reflector it actually maintained most of it's reflective property as I found out today with the sun shining off of them. And like I've said my camera sucks so the lights look better in person and are alot brighter

this is what i did with our tail lights. I'm currently working on another set for my wifes brother. I also have another set in the works for me but i'm using the 24 LED 3-1/2 inch round lights used for transport trailer and trucks. I like the look of the S5 and JDM S7

During the day when it's bright and sunny you can see them but it's more difficult, not like you need them when it's bright and sunny anyway. Night time though or even cloudy weather the regular lights show through perfectly fine
