Smoke on Start up
I've tried searching but haven't really found what i was looking for. On my GSL-SE after being started it will have blueish smoke for a bit while warming up. Im not sure how long it stays there but im guessing till it warms up? How much if any smoke is normal? The engine has only about 40k.

Blue smoke is oil burning, but with the recent temperature changes in most climes, I would think that this is normal for the time of year. Also, the RE-EGI system on the 84/85 GSL-SE's is designed to suck a 90/10 coolant/water mixture from the 'subzero assist' tank located near your front washer fluid tank. This subzero assist blows antifreeze into the intake along with fuel and air to help seal the engine in colder temperatures. If it's getting pretty cold at night where you are, the ECU may be deciding to use this to help start the car in the mornings, however, the smoke would be white or steam, instead of blue.
(is this helping?)
Has your oil consumption increased noticably for the same style of driving over a month's time? As colder temperatures appear, it's normal for the engine to use a bit more oil on cold starts due to the seals being cold and not keeping out oil along the rotor oil seals well. This may account for your blue smoke until the engine gets warmed up and the seals are expanded fully against the side housings.
When the engine is blowing blue smoke all the time is when you have a problem. Or worse yet, steam from the exhaust all the time...

Thanks for the reply... It did clear a few things up!
I've removed my sub zero start assist so i know that doesn't have anything to do with it. Im not really sure about the oil comsumption because it has always used a bit, but that i know if it only smokes when its been sitting for a while in cold temperatures such as over night (its gotten alot colder recently). During the day it might let out a small puff once started. So Im guessing i have nothing to worry about then.

Rotaries naturally burn a little oil, as there as oil is injected into the engine to lube the seals. Also, when the engine is shut off, all the oil that was in the engine that didn't get burned remains there, unlike in a piston engine where the oil drains back down into the crank case.
