GA sleeper headlights w/hid

Good Day Reader(s),

Well winter is here and my car is still down.. had fun for a day and a half though. (turbo fb's are sweet) i am waiting on a few things to roll in (cash) and a few things to roll out (xmas) before i can get back on completing my ride. bout to order my poly bushing kit and frnt tokicos from our friends at ReSpeed, then get my fb body cleaned up and primed out...

I've been wanting sleepy eyes with projector hids for some time and finally ready to make a set. i am not a wizard of creations but this i am sure i can do this. i have checked out what the guys in the second gen section have done and we need our own.

i have a sketch done and it will work. if anyone here has a headlight assembly they can donate and send me. I will post for everyone my final results w/ complete measurements.

pls pm me for address.
thanks in advance.
Shawn

This is something that has been attempted and discussed by members in the past, albeit with little success. I also have a currently postponed project attempting to create just what you are talking about. Unfortunately, as I stated it is on hiatus until I get my Seven up and running (Almost there! just need money and good weather!!!)

But here is the thread if you want to look through it:
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ght=Sleepy+Eye

and here is another member who got quite a bit done in that respect:

Those projectors are designed as fog beams and not main beams. From what I've read those Hellas can have some bad hot spots when retrofitted with HIDs.

If you want to go the projector route, get some bi-xenon (high and low) projectors to mount. A bi-xenon setup can be had fairly inexpensively and perform amazingly when paired with a good bulb and ballast. I'd use an FX-R or Morimoto Mini projector (both bi-xenon).

Look around on The Retrofit Source for their products.

Forgot to ask if you wanted the sleepy eyes to actually close, because if you do then you won't be able to go beyond the sheetmetal angle on the OEM Lights because that actually goes against the frame of the vehicle. This is the current issue I came across with my projector system and I have yet to resolve it, though in the near future I will be addressing it when the project goes back on the to do list.

well i was hoping to have the lights work as normal, with of course the lights only coming up a little under 3/4. its hard to really gauge as i'm only at this point working with pictures.(junkyard around here dont have any 1st gens). i really dont want to take mines off as the car is not readily avail. to me.

are you talking about the circled part in the pic attached?

Those Morimotos are bi-xenon, meaning that they are high and low in one. There is a piece of the cutoff shield that is mechanically moved out of the way to create the "high" beam.

What you may want to do is mount a separate halogen lamp next to it to add to the range.

Yes, if you look at the way the bracket is made it will sit against the frame and when the headlight is retracted it will touch that slanted section, so really you have a very very small amount of space to work with if you want them to retract all the way.

lol..thaks for the reminder..im starting to think i bit off more than i can chew...still though, i am determined to do this.. looking for the high beam projector is a little stressing being i dont know yet what type of wiggle room i have with the assembly. i figure a stock projector like 3 series bmw will fit. headed to the yard today..

gotta..i saw in ur fab that you did away with that whole section. i was guess that being the light is 7inches in diameter that the dept is about 6inches...i must be wrong. it seems like i will have to make a similiar bracket frame from scratch. ive been looking for a breakdown of the assembly with measuremeent and still looking.

do you have these measurements by chance?

I don't remember if I have the measurements lying around my desk. I will take a look when I get home from work, pretty slow today so I may get off early.

if you use the morimoto bi-xenon as you always running and the halogen as only highs it will look sweat. I have a set of those for my motorcycle that i never installed because I am waiting to fab something. i think this would be an easy project if prepared right. I was thinking it may be best to get rif of the motor and make a bracket to do manual pop-ups to save space as well.

okay....so i got two headlight units...great i thought til i got home. not going to be easy at all, but got to be well worth the effort.

upon getting hm i did some measuring and cutting is going to have to done...the internal frame needs to be intact as much as possible however, i have to go at least 5-1/2in. back have at least 7-1/2in. in width. the Bi-xenon: Morimoto Mini r going to be my best bet..not to high in price but not cheap either..oh well ....i'll cont. to search for lower priced pair. i have came up with some general cut specs in the attachement.
