sitting rx-7

i found a old rx-7 and i was woundering if it will lock up by just sitting there or maybe rust together. is there some way of loosening it up before you turn it over like poor oil some where or something of that nature please get back to me asap.

Most likely what would happen is the apex seals would lock down, destroying compression. You best bet is to take a wrench and see if the engine will turn...very slowly. Then get you some ATF or heavy gear oil and pour it in the intake manifold. Pour several ounces in at a time, and turn the engine 1/4 turn each day for a week or so. I used to do this with old piston engines.

ok

ok now after i do that should i prime it or anything so just crank it over like normal. and if it does start and it smokes can i just a heaveir oil like in normal piston cars. also how does the oil distribution work in the rotary??

IT WILL SMOKE! Don't be alarmed the ATF will make it smoke like a champ till itnurns out! As far as the heavy oil issue I'm not real sure but I don't think it will have the same effect as it does on a piston motor. FYI:Mazda recommends 20w50 I think.Oil distribution While I haven't taken one apart yet to see exactly I think like a piston motor execpt for the fact that it also injects some in the fuel supply. Sorry I'm still green too!

i would recommend disconnecting the cats when you do this...IT WILL BE LOUD...but do it to make sure you don't clog your cats...

turning it over

ok now when i turn it over can i do it like a regular piston engine or is there a diffrent way. is it right in the center of the motor or what???

hey thank you for the link that helped alot i think i should be able to get it running pretty soon i pick the car up on thursday. the guy said it ran but who knows. if it runs i will be selling it(the engine and transmission) in about a year or so when ever i have enough to get a BIGGER motor. but this will be fine for now. how much would one of yall pay for a 12a motor and 5spd trans?? and who is interested?
