Sighns your 7 is failing

Hello guys I tried searching but did not find anything, but I am sure it's been asked ...
I was wondering if there are any sighns that your seven is in need of a rebuild.. Let me use my se for an example.
I have an 85 SE I drove it down from Maryland .It took 15 hours non stop. My car doesn't smoke at all, first start up or at anytime. She pulls extremly well, I can chirp the tires in 3rd gear with no problem. My concern is that it has 185,000 miles.
I am the third owner and the second owner only drove her 3000 in the four years he had it. I hear no strange noises. I know the oil is constantly fresh, due to the fact that the FMOC has a hair liner crack(NEW ONE IS ON IT's WAY)
I do not have a compression tetser, so I could not tell you anything like that... Just want to get you guy's opion...
Just want to take care of my new baby, She's the nicest out of the 8 I've owned, I would like to keep her that way..
Thanks guys
Peace
Cruz

i always wondered that about mine when i got my SE...145k on the engine when i picked her up. pulled hard chirped the tires into 3rd and fourth somtimes. did a compression check and got 130 all around. so just take care of it and have fun. get a comp checker and check ur compression later.

Is it completly normal to have a hairline crack down the middle of the FMOC Lower Hose connecter? (Like where the thread is?) That damned crack fucked me over almost last saturday. I took it over to my auto shop and did some work and an oil change, next thing I know, I start her up and the thing bleeds a pint of oil. X.x Luckily my Wedling instructor was there and he didn't mind doing an emergency TIG repair. Needless to say, my FMOC doesn't need to be replaced anymore and the welded hole is now stronger than the orginal.

Oh yeah, XD sorry about that. I don't know, thats a good question to ask; my '82 has +250K on it and it runs great! No compresion issues, everything works wonderfully. My starter is the only issue I have so far, makes a grinding noise if I don't pump the gas generously when starting the 7. When shoudl an engine be rebuilt? what are the signs? O.o if you keep it in good condition, does it even need a rebuild?

Well, I just lost mine at 231,000 miles. Before it went, she was exhibiting signs of a sticking apex seal. Sounded like a rod knocking when I opened the secondaries. She was a good motor though, raced it most weekends.

All I can say is, don't fear the redline. Most of the motors that go bad are the ones used as "grocery getters". They take it easy on them, and they never see the redline. Next thing they know, it's so built up with carbon that they end up breaking parts. You need to excercise her daily to keep her clean and running right.

Rotaries were made for racing, not grocery gettin'.... Oh yeah, and Seafoam is your friend so be sure to use it (through the gas tank)...

A little off topic but, when I am driving mine, I get it up to like 7-8 grand and let off then get back on it it blows a **** load of white smoke out. Is this bad?

White smoke is generally a coolant leak. What is your car and motor exactly?

About the seafoam...you would recommend it even if my 12A is not showing any bad signs? If so i will go buy some today I like to take care of my baby as well

SeaFoam is a great engine cleaner. I've used it in all the cars I've owned/worked on. There's a reason people swear by it: it works!

Blown oil control rings. You'll need to rebuild the motor to fix this problem (assuming that your oil level is not overfilled, which will also cause this). However, you can delay an engine rebuild and "control" the problem by using Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer. Search, and you will find numerous threads detailing this...

Run a full can through a partial tank of gas (1/8 - 1/4 full), then let me know if you feel a difference in power or smoothness... I typically do this once a month or so. If you keep your apex seals free of carbon and moving smoothly, then compression and horsepower go up and the engine will probably live longer.

i was given no warning when mine went, sure at little smoke but not when driving heavy, and im a firm beliver in the "redline a day keeps the carbon away"
But blew a rear rotor and still made it home 150 miles later, i love these little cars!
I drove it cuz i already had a transplant in the making!MUAHAHAH

I thought you had to use this seafoam on at least 8 gallons of gas to run it through the engine? So when the level is at 1/4 put this in and just drive it till its closer to empty?
