Angry should i sell it ?

I need to take my car into the shop...
The list of things i need replaced are as follows
New exhaust and cat
Shutter valve
Speedometer cable
Oil change and other fluids
My c/c cable is not hooked up i need and air filter it looks burnt. And I have a small oil leak I think coming from the pan
Also this big puff of white smoke shoots out the muffler every time I start it but goes away after it’s warmed up...
Could some one give me a price range to fix all this stuff?

price depends on if you are doing the work yourself. everythig you listed is minor stuff that could be fixed in an afternoon provided you had all of the parts. you need to source the oil leak (could be the level sensor, pan gasket, rear main seal, oil cooler or lines/hard line depending on what year/setup you have or omp). the white smoke on startup is ok as long as you arent seeing clouds. i personally would keep it. i've seen far worse, as my hobby is buying 7's that are ready for teh crusher and restoring them. my parts cache is incredible.

as i stated above, fix it yourself. you'll learn a lot about your 7 in the process and will appreciate the car more. if you get stuck consult the fsm or post back. thats what we're here for.

replacing two converters with oem stuff will put you over 1K in parts alone. you could go with blackdragon and save some money or buy a used system off of a forum member. the speedometer cable can be purchased used here on the forum and the shutter valve can be worked free if it is stuck and made to work as it did when it was new, so that's free, just putting the work into it is teh cost if you would call it that. teh air filter and oil change should be more than $30.

You have tons of members in your surronding area. Post a thread in the West Coast Forum to see if a member could assist you while you do the work. I'm sure that for some beer and pizza there will be some takers.

As far as the parts go, check the classifieds or post a WTB in the classifieds for the parts you are looking for. You might get lucky and find someone that has an aftermarket performance cat there also. Bonez cat replacements new that replace the front and rear cat are around $250-$300 tops. Normally you can get a catco rear(main) cat for around $100.00. Not the one that will last forever but will get you by for years.

As far as your exhaust goes, more than likely your pre-cats dumped their innards into your main catalytic converter. Focus on replacing that. It's what I've done to my car mainly because I can't afford $800+ for a complete new exhaust setup.

Everything else is minor, I agree with what The Doc said. Ask around in the Region section to see if anyone will be willing to lend a helping hand.

Based on that... I change my mind... sell it. you will dump money to a lost cause. sell it and buy another one in better condition.

Depends how much you love your car. My car has a tonne more problems than that, and I'm keeping it. This week its in the shop getting my oil cooler lines replaced (which in turn I found out I need a new mount), injectors rebuilt, fuel guage diagniosed and fixed, afm replaced, and thats only to get it to good running condition, not considering everything else I would like to do.

Go get a couple quotes, see if you can swing it. Sounds like you are not mechainically inclined, no crime in that. But the bulk of the stuff tou mention will cost in labor more than anything and if you cant do the work on the RX7s they probably are not for you. Especially the first gens which over twenty years old. Buy an an RX8!!!

not always so. just like a woman, if you're good to her she'll stay loyal and if you treat her right and are good with your hands your she'll stay parked in your garage for a LONG time and you won't have to worry about her leaving you for that mustang down the street

thats the thing with most of us 7 owners. we enjoy putting time and money into a car we love, even if the car appears to outsiders as a car that isnt worth the air it breathes. there are however exceptions, times when the unit body is completely rotten and the wheel wells are gone(or other vaious states of disrepair) that the 7 will have to be parted or parted with. MRTUCKER, keep what you have and be good to her.

I agree fully Mazdaverx, probably the stupidest thing I have done is put money into my rex. But I love that car so much, she's worth every penny of it...

Plus, Mazdaverx was onto something;

She'll always be there for you! And If you take good care of her, change her fluids regularly and keep her purring, she'll always take you for a ride!
