Should i give up on rx7's?
#26
every rx7 I bough was NOT listed for sale. someone tells me when they see one sitting, or I see one sitting I ask if it's blown.. if they THINK its blown or messed up, I offer 300-600 depending on the goods, and walkaway for 2-3 months before coming back and asking again. most of them have taken 4-6 months to get them desperate enough to take my price. face it kid, you just can't hustle like some of us.

I think i am just going to finish the rest of the work on my red rx7 and wait for the right one to come around that i can have fun with and modify I will try what you guys told me to do and haggle with them when i meet in person and not over the phone or text.

Take you're time buying! I came across my 83 for dirt cheap shortly after looking at this purple 86 and I am sooo glad I didn't make a deal for it! Looking back on it, it was a steal. I knew I was in the market for an rx7, didn't know what year or anything I just wanted a rotary car and it took months of just browsing for sale adds on kijiji until I got lucky.
Keep you're head up, there are still good people out there!!!!

7's are a LABOR of LOVE, not a PURCHASE of POWER.
If you find one you want get it and build it. Very rarely will you find them already built for you (unless you know where to look). Keep with it if you want to keep spending money and time with the car. If you don't want to continue to learn then you should stop now and not waste any more of your time.
I learned practically everything car-related I know from my 7's - and it was entirely worth the time, money and effort.

I honestly bought mine as a toy, something to enjoy, and be able to take apart and build and rebuild, I never expect a return on any investment. Your original if fully original and restored that way, depending on mileage, could one day be that. As for a modable one if it's all there and working but, rough and in need of tlc, that's the best way to get a decent deal. I had waited for one and in call honesty it fell into my lap at a real good price. Patients pays when it comes to old cars. Don't give up on um and remember full factory restorations are fun too!

It has insurance on it and it is being driving by my mom. She had issues with her other cars so she is driving it in the meantime and i will be driving it by the end of October.

Buying a car and fixing it up expecting to make money isn't what you should be thinking. In fact, I suggest you don't want to keep track of what you spent to fix it up as it will only be depressing.
Find your best deal, but then spend money and time fixing it up only for the fun and satisfaction of fixing it up.

i got mine off craigslist and of all the other ones i saw most were crap or verts. i hate verts. so i got an na since i couldn't find a turbo. i negotiated a small amount on the phone but i met the guy checked out the car all was well besides the throwout bearing (which i'm getting the trans rebuilt or getting a new one) and the massive paint chipping problem, but that was my choice since i have plans for this car anyhow. talked a bit about cars and rotaries he said he wanted 200 to hold it since i didn't have the cash just then need 2 days to get the final amount. made a solid impression and he held it for free. an ex coworker of mine (heavy tack guy) had an evo 9 said he usually points out the stuff thats wrong with the car and brings along his family who all drive tracked evo's and sti's to intimidate the seller which then lowers the price. he says its worked every time. so some of it is building a common ground with the seller. get him/her softened up and never throw out the first offer. then beat their price as low as possible. of course you should point out the bads about any car you are trying to buy thats car buying 101 LOL

Come on guys, Cody is just young and inexperienced and trying to learn. We've all been there ourselves, some of us still are.
And he obviously loves RX-7's, which makes him a cool dude in my book.
His posts might be a bit annoying for some of us folks who know-it-all, but it's kind of like FOX News, you don't have to click if you don't want to.
Keep up the good work Cody and drive safely when you do get behind the wheel!

If Cody is a Troll, he is a Master Troll, worthy of our respect.
But I think he's just "a young guy trying to learn about rx-7's", like he says.
Cody, to get back to your original question, the answer is no.
And thanks for your bountiful questions, they've given all of us a chance to learn more about RX-7's.

The Rotary Gods speak through Ray. I know I'm not the same now as when I was 17 or 18. I can't speak for anyone else, but I need to be true to myself. I guess that means if Cody's passion is Rx-7's then he needs to pursue it, regardless of what anyone else thinks.
On the flip side however, Cody needs to listen to what the general opinion is and let it sink in. The vast majority of people here use and share their Rotary knowledge in a positive and constructive way. It just takes a respectful approach to unlock the door.
I do admit that I laughed at the Charlie Brown video reference......

Cool dude Cody. I remember when I was 19. I was totally infatuated with Datsun 240Zs. Still am.
Those Zs were like instant girlfriends back in 1970, right out of Led Zepplin. If you've ever heard of those guys.
Whole lotta love, that kind of stuff.
Zs are nice, but 7s are better. For all kinds of reasons.
Anyway, to get back to your question Cody, stick with the 7s my boy, you'll never regret it.
