Should I buy this?

HI guys,

I don't normally hang out here but since I am thinking on buying a first gen I guess you will probably bee seen here also (I own and FC). I thought maybe I would post these pics and maybe you guys could tell me a little more about the car. These are the things I do know about the car. It's a 79 which makes it an SA, it's got the 5 speed manual, and the interior is real good except for some cracks in the seats (due to age). Now my questions is the guy I am buying it from has the front bumper and he also has an air dam, now I see that the car has the rear spoiler and the targa band, if he has an air dam I am puzzled, I saw somewhere that the 79's had a limited number of LE's, could this be one? If anyone can help me figure this car out. I also know that the car was built in apr 79.

Here are some pics

Any Help would be appreciated.

sounds like a great deal...i see rust on the 2 front fenders but not on the bottom of the doors which is good...it'll be easy enough to fix or replace, but i'd check the rest of the body for rust...rear wheel wells and rear end are likely spots for rust. the rims are an excellent addon as well...

Yep, you have to buy it, for the rims if nothing else. Do yourself a favor though, find a hood that doesn't have the silly looking vents in it. You'll love the SA RX-7, they tend to be lighter than the later models and have that cool retro style!

Does that center cap on the wheels say WEDS?

All I can say is THAK YOU!!!! I finally know what my wheels are. I've asked on here many times, and no one ever knows. I only paid $100 for my set though. It's good to know there are people willing to pay $300 for them though if I ever need to sell them

Oh yeah, back on the subject, I say buy the car

That's too funny, in a wierd way. I ask for opnions and end up helping someone. And yes they are WEDS, but someone pointed out that when turned upside down they say "spam". too funny

Update

Well, I went and looked at the car today and was totaly surprised and impressed at the same time. The new information and pics I have are as follows

the car has about 85,000 miles on it, I did a compression test on it and alls chambers read just below 90 psi, and it has a header and a weber sidedraft car on it. the uderside is in good shape and I will be restoring it over the next year. Following are some updtated pics.

Here are some pics of the engine and surrounding metal.
Including the carb.

Now the interior and stuff:

here is the airdam & Bumper:

Interior and stuff:

And lastly the targa band:

Is this a decent car?

IMO- I would pay $300 and walk away laughing.
Those rims look really close to being BBS rims. Check the stamps near the center caps on the rims themselves. If they are BBS- they were the premo **** in their day and will def add value to the car. The weber is an added bonus too. The car does not look to bad and should clean up nice..Maybe needs some other mechanical work but hell, for $300 you can't really lose..If it gets too much, part it out and make 3x as much as you paid for it!

I agree, it is a GREAT deal, I would pay much more than $300 for it if I found it.

Except, those wheels are not BBS. I have been searching for a long time now trying to find out what my wheels are, and those are an exact match. They are WEDS wheels, and if I am right about them, then there won't be a single mark on them to let you know what type of wheels they are.

I have only found 1 more of them that are a match, but they were stamped and only 14".

nice

i would have to say get the car just for the rims. I have an 83 rx-7 with a 12-a and i am very impressed with what it can do. I was just looking at your pics, your car looks like it can turn out very clean. nice find. I was just interested in your front air damn? do you know where the previous owner bought it? or how much would you part with it for? never hurts to ask.

good luck
