should I?

i have a chance to get a 1985 rx7 with about 99k miles, brown, sunroof, some fender damage. its only 400$ and the guy said it needs "carb adjustment".

anyway im not new to cars or anything and i am very capable of about any bodywork or mechanical work. the only problem is i dont know anything about these cars or their quirks or problems.

anyhow i just want to know if there is anything i should look for ( i havent ran it yet i need to bring a battery )

i have always wanted an rx7 and this seems like a good winter beater and then i can make it into an autoX car or somthing.

anyways, lmk what you guys think

If it runs I'd buy it! Mine is a little tempermental in the cold though so I don't know about the winter beater thing.

Why do I always forget? " welcome to the forum"

I drove them in the winter a lot in the past, but not now that I have a choice. They are light so traction in snow is not the greatest either.

People may disagree but IMO the best thing to do with that carb is get rid of it and all those other wires and hoses.

The carbs on these cars really aren't that complicated, though I have had some serious agony working on mine. I'm kinda a klutz when it comes to this kind of stuff though, I basically learned on the RX-7 and I have a lot left to learn. There are a ton of great references on this board and on www.mazspeed.com so you will have no trouble getting her going if you have the patience and a tiny bit of skill. Heck if I can do it, I'm sure that anyone can.

$400 is pretty dammed cheap, so basically the question is, why wouldn't you buy it? The car is light and RWD, so it needs a light touch in the snow, but it is a very capable all-weather car and will start in very low temps, at least if it's anything like my two RX-7's. They are very fun autoX cars as well, with some work, they can even be competative.

So I say, buy the car, worst case scenario is that you sell it to someone else for $400 bucks and the only thing you're out is your time.
