hrm... i think a targa would take away too much of the structural support. what about finding a junked 7 with the sunroof, sawing the whole roof off, and piecing it together onto your car? you'd only need to make a hole just a little bigger than a stock sunroof on your car.

I was thinking of a targa top too... just re-enforcing it somehow. Maybe two bars, one on each side of it, kinda like a roll-cage?

OR...having a sunroof installed...like my 7? But Keapolaffen has a point too. You can do the targa thing...but reinforcing the body as well!!!

Oh, and you cant forget that silver targa band!

I installed a factory sunroof in my car, its a pretty easy mod, with a welder, a jig saw (plasma cutter etc). And some bodyshop experience... I got pictures on here somewhere, you have to dig them up under my username...

Add a good 100 or so pounds to the frame in angle iron and you might just survive a collision. Ill pass on the T tops, Targa tops, or a vert in a 1st gen.
