Short update on the project!

Well folks, thought I'd offer a small update on my 82 FB project

After sitting for nearly two years, we managed to get her home. The car was out at my grandfathers shop, outside. The time came to haul her on home now that I can afford to do the work on her. So, While I went to work I had my father put the 7 on the tow dolly and haul her back into town.

Came home to a bit of a problem.

He decided that he liked the Rx7 and decided to see if the engine still ran. On gasoline and oil thats 2 years old, he pulled back the choke and fired her up.

Came home to find that out x.x Sheesh, violated all the protocals when restoring one of these things.

Surprisingly enough however, She fired up and ran. Not for very long, but she ran. I was pleased to hear that, despite my grumpyness he fired an engine up on old gasolene.

Man, I had forgotten how bad her body was getting. **** or tires, I suppose right? Either one will give you troubles as they get older :P

Heres some pictures of my little project car: If you look close enough, you can see the scowl on my girlfriends face as I take pictures of my car admiringly. She's all like "What a peice of a junk. My ZX 2 can take this peice.."

As you can, she's in decent shape except for her quarters and fenders? Hehe. Going to be a long project, But so worth it!

So, I have a 13b Fuel injected lined up for it, with the transmission, new master and slave cylinder, cleaned and ready to rock nikki carb and some panels coming for her

I'm very happy to be part of the mazda family. Going to be an interesting ride. So far, costs are getting a little insane. Little things that you dont think about. Weather stripping all needs redone, battery is dead , tires need changed , new fuel filter, oil filter, new 10w30 oil, new antifreeze.. All of thats being purchased. I never said this was going to be easy, I just didnt, perhaps in my youth, really grasp how much this was going to cost!

In the end, Im contemplating keeping the stock color, or switching out to the green the imported RHD cars had stock...

What do yah think folks? Any suggestions on what else I can do to her to make her a better, faster and shinier car?

Im curious what you picked this up for? That is alot of body work to begin with, not to imagine what the frame looks like. It looks to have drums, thus a non-lsd so that is for sure recommended.

Definitly a nice project. I like how your gf thinks her escort could take your 7. Always enjoy a good chuckle like that. It may have more power but i guarantee it's not nearly as fun to drive. Redo all the suspension, she handles well now, think about it with a tighter chassis. Save the tire money for some decent performance tires, let her sit on those for now. new wheels, and performance street brake pads. The engine sounds like a good plan but fuel injected would be a better idea instead of switching to a carb, IMO. But thats just me. Anyway good luck, have fun, and keep your wallet handy, you'll need it.

Well, my grandfather is an autobody mechanic, my uncle is, my father is.. I'm the only one who isnt. So, When some one offers you an RX7 for about 200 dollers, canadian, Who complains? I figure, this car will take about 2 grand. Canadian money, mind you. The body work doesnt really concern me, I can get all panels for about 500 dollers, shipped. Drums and breaks dont really scare me much either, got access to at cost prices on those.

Overall, this was meant to take time, for me to learn the skills of my family, and basicly have pride in something I've accomplished. We'll see how it goes.

On a weird side note, while removing the carpeting this morning, I found a doller, made the year I was born. Coincidence? Nope. This was destined.

Oh, and for sure. The carb will not be put on the 13b. The fuel injection will stay For now though, I want to get the 12A running, drive the car a bit before I put in the 13b. I have to get all the fuel lines, pumps etc to convert to a fuel injected, so Its going to take a month or two of saving up for those peices. So, I'll get the 12 working to "Derust" the car :P Give her a bit of a break in.

Yeah, but I HATE driving that ZX2. The thing absolutely SCREAMS on the highway. 3500 plus RPMs at 100km an hour? Thats bull. The car sounds like it should have been given a 6 speed, not a 5. Its just, ugh. It can sure turn tightly though.. It just feels heavy and bulky.

Did you find a cost-effective source for the weather stripping or just bit the bullet? Blackdragonauto is gonna rape my account if I order everything through them that I need. Heck, just the pieces for the door(1) add up to like $400.
