serious holley carb issue
#52
........I knew someone would say that. Now I have to tell you what I did. I changed over that vacuum line and forgot to put the plug back on the large vac fitting on the intake.. I sat there for 10 minutes wondering why it wouldn't idle. One of these days I promise I will pull my head out of my ***. Thsoe 2 spots are the only vac fittings I could find. Im guessing there are more...

I can't remember how many ports are in the stock intake. Spray the carb and intake with carb cleaner while the car is running. If idle changes in a specific spot, you have a vacuum leak there.

Update. After changing the vacuum advance to the port on the carb, I capped the only other vacuum fitting I found. I took carb cleaner and sprayed all over the intake and around the carb.. no change in idle. However, now that I have moved that vacuum line it barely wants to idle. It does idle but its barely enough to keep it running and its blowing white smoke out like a smoke machine. Also when I pull the throttle its extremely choppy.. not really driveable. After work I think I'm going to make a video to post up of exactly how the all the connections are and how it sounds.

Okay Ive messed with it a while after work and Ive timed it to where it seemed to run the best, as well as watched my brother snap off the forks that hold my throttle cable ... luckily i retrofitted one from one of our many FC intakes. Then I made a new linkage for the secondarys to kick in mechanically (temporarily). still has the stumble which you will hear in the video I made for your guys. Now its time to relax and Enjoy lol..

The bog is just the stumble when the secondaries are opening without enough fuel from the accelerator pump, the vac sec diaphragm will eliminate that. You also likely have a vac leak on acceleration from the port which would pull vacuum to the secondary diaphragm. Next comes tuning the accel pump shot, and then jetting and float level adjustment.

Edit. okay well I watched Holleys video, which I will post below, and basically it's saying my pump nozzle is too small. I will also take a look at the plastic cam and re adjust the pump arm cause I'm thinking mine is loose as hell. ooooo gettin close !

Yeah def. found the problem. First my cams in pretty good shape. However the pump arm and the spring is extremely loose. Also my pump nozzle is a 25. I just saw a thread that calls for a 30 on a stock port. Now I just need to know what size I need for the street port.

alright ive been messing with the carb and after studying up on holleys and tuning them, i tuned it to what they said is correct and now my idles pretty well.. so naturally i reach for the idle screw.. its already backed out almost as far as it will go. Now I'm assuming the timing needs retarded. unfortunately I can see the damn marks with the timing light on the shaft. we rolled it over slow to try to see them and i even went around it with soapstone to highlight it.. no go. so looks looks likes im timing it by feel for the moment till i figure out a solution. Oh and my pump nozzle is on THE way. Still gaining progress on it.

Alright time for an update. I took the 7 on a 2 hour trip to chillicothe, ohio for a kayak/drinking weekend. Besides the cut and lack of power it did great. On the way back I stopped at a speed shop and bought 35 accel pump nozzles. I just got tired of waiting for mine to be shipped. Also when I got home I got the secondary diaphram in the mail from 84stock. Big thanks to you man, you are awesome ! I will be installing both after bit and I will post up another update maybe video and seal the deal on this carb

Okay got the pump nozzle on and the diaphragm. 84 stock, that diaphragm works smooth as silk. I put a 35 nozzle on and its got waaaayyyyyy more power however still got the damn stumble. Ive also adjusted the pump arm spring and cam. At this point Im wondering if it is the jets. Or maybe Im just not adjusting enough fuel to it... Ive got it 2 1/2 turns out right now.
