Selling 1980 RX-7*

I am new to this site so I have not posted before. I am hoping someone could give me some advice as I am selling a 1980 RX-7 in excellent condition. It has 15,245 miles and has been garaged but driven. I have been the only owner and have maintained all care for the car. Everything is original, and the carborator was just re-built. Removeable sun roof, am-fm radio, and air conditioning, inside in excellent condition. It's a beauty. Would appreciate any advice you could give. Thanks

sell

Hello
Best bet is to post it on ebay with a good description and some good
pics. Generally the amount you may get from the classified section on
this site will be far below market value.
It only takes one bidder

It's tough to say without pics, but judging from the low miles and being a one owner car, you could receive a very strong price. If you're interested in selling, but are not sure the value, I'd do a couple things. First, check NADA Guide (nadaguides.com). This will give you a ball park value....now mind you, the amount they're going to show is most likely significantly lower than market, but it gives you a starting point. Plus, if you sell you're likely to get potential buyers who will quote it as if it is THE only source to set price.

The next step would be to go onto ebaymotors and do a search by closed auctions. Put in the year and make and see what you get in return for closed auctions. I checked Hemmings Motor News and there isn't much action in the Mazda section.

In any case, you could detail the car, and put it on eBay for a strong reserve price and see what happens. As far as timing, we're still getting Winter like weather, so you may want to hold off for a month or two. Once the weather gets warmer folks start itching for a fun car....which may equal strong price for you.

It would be helpful to post some pics. The Rx7 community may be able to give you feedback on the condition of your car. It sounds like it could be a real gem.

Good luck. Kevin

Welcome to the forum. Too bad your first contact is to sell your car.

Sounds like you have a gem there. You might not realize the full value by just listing on e-bay.

Current value for a very good car with around 100,000 miles is around 1500 to 2000. If your car is as described, I would guess that it could go for more than that if you can find the right buyer.

Advertise it in the RX7s For Sell section in this forum. Ebay would'n hurt, but make sure that it has a good reserve price so that you are not giving it away.

Key is to be patient to fine the right person.

Good luck... You wouldn't consider keeping it and enjoying it with the help of the rest of us, obsessed owner would you?

Thanks for the great information. I have taken your advice and added a photo of the car. Your help is appreciated (and I would love to keep the car and stay obsessed!)

I don't honestly think you'll get what the car is really worth to you. After babying it for so many years, the 3 or maybe 4 k you MIGHT get just isn't worth it. Unless you really need the money, I would seriously consider keeping it at this point if you can.

If the car is mechanically perfect and absolutely no rust, I would hold out for no less than 5k. I'm sure there are some gasps from the crowd, but a 7 in this condition is getting extremely hard to find. Don't get in a hurry to sell it, any thing over 4k will take a while for the right buyer to come around.
