Seized 6th port
After taking the advice of our fellow board member Jimmy54, I decided to check to see if those rotating sleeve things on the bottom of the intake manifold were seized. I tried to rotate the linkage on both sides, but they were both seized. I'm new to the whole rotary deal, so I don't exactly know the name of them, but they are the two vacuum actuated ports that open at a certain RPM and throttle position. I'm assuming that this is more then likely a common problem with these cars because Jimmy mentioned it so I'm hoping that someone will be able to give me an idea of what exactly is the problem. Are the vacuum actuators the problem, or has the sleeve itself seized (or stuck) itself into it's bore (assuming they are in a bore) in the intake manifold? What is the ideal method of repairing this? Does the manifold have to be removed or can I disassemble everything from the side of the engine?
The car is a '84 GSL-SE, by the way.
Thanks for the help guys/gals!

do some searching too, this topic has come up EVERYWHERE... check out the second gen forums as well, cause its mostly the same motor... you may not have to yank the intake... im sure enough carb cleaner would do it all by itself (if you drown it and let it sit overnight...
but i dont own a six port. dont listen to me.

In my case the actuator would seize(the arm that move in and out), you can remove the actuators without removing the entire LIM. However it's not a bad idea to open all the manifolds up and do some cleaning.
Put some oil on the arm and afew knocks and it should move freely again!
Pm me for my number and I can show you our shop where we have the rx7's and we have a few motors apart so you can get familiar with your new gsl-se! LOL
