Seat modification
I have a SA and upgraded to the seats out of an 83 because it had the tilting seat. It turned out well except that it sits higher than the original and I have trouble seeing the speedo and tach.
Has anyone removed the rear seat mounting pedastals and bolted the seat directly to the floor? It would lower the rear of the seat about 1 1/2 inches. I am sure it's been done but a search turned up nothing.
Anybody tried it?

idk if rx7 seats are like na miatas, but in a miata you can pull foam pad inserts out of the seat and turns it into a stuck bucket seat, maybe i will try this this weekend and post my results

I wonder if thats out of a GSL... all the 83's I've owned didn't have tilting seats, but I never had a GSL...
I know you already have the seats, but the S5 seats I have in my FB sit a good inch lower than the stock ones, might be something to consider getting before doing a bunch of cutting on your car...

It must be from a gsl, I am not sure. I found them in a junkyard years ago.
I am pretty much committed to the seat I have. It matches my custom leather interior, to have another recovered would be too much money and trouble, Its not too bad as it is, I would just like to lower it a bit if I can.
I am thinking that if I carefully drill the welds that hold the rear seat mounts in then I could weld them back in if need be.

Ah yeah if you're into the current seats for that much $ it wouldn't make sense to change them now.
Make sure you use a spot weld drill on that, otherwise you'll drill right through the floor too! If you do go ahead with this let us know how it works out, I would think the seat would lean back too far, but then if you have the tilt option you could compensate that way...
