SE Melting air filter, very strange!
I recently bought a nice 85 GSL-SE, it has a very strange issue. It gets so hot in the air filter box that it melts the edges of the filter and basically glues the filter box shut. I just read thru the previous owners maintenance records and see that it hapens on a regular basis. I was going to buy a Racing Beat foam filter or a K&N but I sure don't want to ruin them.
Has anyone else had this issue? Any ideas?
Thanks for looking.

I bought this one off ebay:

comes with gasket, adapter and filter. If you need to keep the air pump i believe people put those crankcase filters on the tube, I just removed the air pump and all... car sure is loud with 2.5" exhaust...
edit: you might need bolts that are just a little bit longer for the adapter.

The motor is not overheating. All I can figure it that the exhaust manifold is superheating that side of the engine bay. The cone filter does solve the problem but then your sucking in hot underhood air. I'll either go to home depot and get some heat shielding material or go with the cone filter and duct cold air to it. Thanks for the input.
