SCCA race car (pics)
This car is for sale, and will be on ebay-Motors soon. He wants no less than $6500. The car has at least $15,000.00 invested but just got married and the car has to go.
Would you guy's pay $6500 for this puppy?
Backround
Car raced in endurance races in the early 80's at Daytona and Sebring and did pretty well.(I think GTU class)
12A BridgePort
webber downraft
Custom widebody
weld wheels 5-lug 12"rear 10"front
Corvette brakes all around (fully adjustable)
ford rear end
tralier included
I'll get more details
Pics came out blurry(sorry) I'll take some better ones tomorrow
BTW: the rust on the tube chassis is being taken care of.

he told me he made the kit himself, but no longer has the Molds. The car has been 10 minutes from my house for years, and I never knew about it. The car has'nt been raced in 8 years, but starts up in a heart beat. (sounds awesome)
If I only had the money, I would buy it myself.

Two big problems... #1: Car has been sitting for years... Before you race it, you're going to want to go through the whole car, and replace anything that even shows the slightest bit of wear...
#2: Custom body parts. He made them himself, but lost the molds? Well, what happens if you have an "off course" excursion, or "car on car" contact? You end up with busted up fiberglass, and no way of putting it back together without spending lots of money...
Nice car, but with it sitting as long as it has, and no way of getting replacement body parts, I wouldn't pay that much... Unless of course I'm missing something... Does he have log books, or any documentation? be kinda cool if it was legal for vintage racing...

Thats not the CPracing body kit.
I would happily pay $6500 for a car like that, but unfortionatly like LT Dan said the car is going to need to be completly gone through before it is race ready.
Looks sweet, wish I had a bunch of cash, and not buying a new motorcycle.

Regardless of what's invested in it and how much it costs, consider the following:
- As Lt. Dan said, the car needs a total rebuild. Even with the marginal photo quality, you can tell it has been ignored for years. Everything will need to be gone through, inspected, cleaned, and / or replaced before it sees the light of day .
- While the car may start up and sound great, that does not tell you the strength of the engine. Unless it was stored properly, it may need a rebuild.
- How much of the car is custom fabricated? Or, put together with obscure parts?
- It looks like an old IMSA GTU car. Given this, there is a fair chance it may not be legal for whatever SCCA class it fits in, so you may need to update / upgrade / modify.
- What are your goals for it? If the car has some documented history, you may be better off bringing it back as a vintage racer.
- Do you have the time, expertise, and financial resources to draw upon to really bring this car back to life? Or, will you do a few things, and then will it sit in your garage for another 8 years?
While the purchase price may seem attractive, this is not a casual endeavor you are considering. I am reminded of the 1959 AH Sprite purchased for $200 by a college student that had the desire but lacked the proper resources (time, expertise, money) to bring it back to life. It sat in his parents garage for three years before being sold for less than he bought it for.
I can send you pictures of the Sprite if you like...

yeah, I personally don't see the $6500 Value in it.... he might have invested $15000 in it over the years, but the sitting part kinda runs all that into the ground.
It looks from the pictures like the majority of the floor, roll bars, tube frame, etc, is all rusty, which needs to be sandblasted and coated to prevent it from rusting more, etc
I'd offer him less myself...

With the bridgeport and wide wheels it would be classed in SCCA GT-2 and could do quite well. Rotaries are competetive in GT-2. HSR would class it in the vintage GTU category appropriately enough!
As for the body kit, take the car to a competent fiberglass shop and ask them to take molds of the car before it ever turns a lap. Have them create one set for yourself and offer to sell the body kit recreations here and make some $ on the side.
The car can benefit from liberal use of POR-15's Metal Ready or other rust neutralizer. $25/gallon. It looks restorable. Too bad the cage and interior wasn't painted properly during construction but oh well.
I hope someone here buys it and gives it the TLC she needs and get her back on the racetrack. I would but I already have a bridgeported racecar !!!!
