Ok guys, last time you guys read my post about having 15mpg to the gallon. Yea suck big time and I though my engine was going to crap but, like like alot of ya said. For a stock 12A FB I should not be getting that low of miles per gallon. Anyways, after doing the 2GCDFIS Mod and doing my own tuning. Plus Sea Foam the engine at 1/8 of gas and drive the crap out of it. I am getting a better miles per gallon. Yea, getting 20mpg now and that is over normal driving condition. Meaning I like to redline from time to time like for a quater mile. Also drive around 70-85mph freeway and warm it up to 3-5 minutes before leaving. Also that car dosen't have a oil change yet, I can not wait to do that next and maybe a carb tuning if possible. I think I might be ruining a little bit more on the rich side.

Beside that hopefully I can get a down-pipe to remove that cat, or maybe save up for a header and presilencer.

if you are getting 20mpg and the carb is stock.... it's not running rich. when my carb was stock i saw high 12's on the wideband. that's perfect.

If the fuel mileage jumped that much, you likely had a weak coil........
I see 20+ MPG around town, and got 25.5 MPG on a 600+ mile road trip. Since then, I have actually tuned the car up, and loosened off the park brake cable because it was causing the rear brakes to drag a little........
Mostly stock 83 GS with no cats.

Glad to hear its working out for you man. I was getting just over 20mpg while driving the hell out of it, but then I got my Sterling carb. lol.

Kinda like Amsoil PowerFoam. It breaks up carbon and the motor expells it through the exhaust.

Working great man. HOLY HORSEPOWER BATMAN! Bolted on and started right up, never had to touch it other than minor idle mixture and speed adjustments. Thanks a lot man!

I get about 21+ for hwy and some around town driving and i have to have a cat on mine because it is law in Atlanta and surounding counties. 2 more years and that damn thing is coming off and i'm putting a straight pipe all the way back... BTW it is a '83 GS and seems to be all stock. only thing i have removed is the air compressor belt for the AC sence it doesn't work anyways. need to pull the plugs to see if i'm running to rich also.. but will see i like the donuts that i have been able to cut in parking lots after dark right now.

You don't need some magic elixir ignition system to see 20+mpg. You can easily get that with a dead stock car.

Regular maintenance. How old are the plugs? If your answer is something over 5,000 miles then hit yourself with the dumb stick. What's your air pressure? When was your last alignment? Why are you shifting at 4k when traffic is barely creeping along? Etc.

I shift everytime at around 3-4K that is normal driving for me. I sometime like to readline during a good streach to clean up some carbon. My cat have a crack with make a wear noise and my plugs was recently change due to the fact they where old. The wires where change by me for the first time since they were still good when I got the car. The timing was a bit off I fix the timing using the information giving to me by Codeblue and other members from the forum. The Ignition setup made it sound alot before before I did any sparkplug change, wires change, and Seafoam my engine which was the final step during this small tiune up.

Now I can tell you the sound of the exhaust, the smoke, burn, I notice the change on the ignition setup before I did any of the updates. However, when I change the sparkplug, the wires around I notices a huge different and even after the SeaFoam my engine was alot better and not doing the weir shacky stuff that it was doing before.

Now, I am planing to get a new coil, air filter, and change my oil. About the air presure I have no idea what you mean.

He is refering to tire pressure. When I installed the transistor trick, I noticed a difference in the sound of the exhaust as well. It had a deeper, more testosterone laden sound to it. Also, with my car well tuned and running great (but driving like I always do) I averaged about 18 mpg. My new carb has put a dent in that figure though...

So, about the tire pressure I always check them so they are fine. I keep them at 32-34 the most because I know they get hot in the road so they would get a good 35psi after they are warm.

i'm generally shifting at 1800-2000. don't need any more than that to keep up with traffic. start off in 2nd gear, too, just to make life easier.

yes this is with a wimpy stockport 12a... somehow everyone else thinks my engines are torque monsters compared to theirs.

and i run 45psi front 40 rear.

What size tires I am runing 195 on stock 13" wheels. By the way dosen't it have to be 35max psi on some tires?

When I am bored I drive around that kind of Rpm that is when I am so relax and taking it easy but most of the time I am in a rush. I love to hear the engine ask for my gear. That always been my life style of driving and truly I never had a car *cross fingers* die on me due to mechanical problem.

I keep my tires at 35psi. But back to the topic at hand. I noticed a great improvement with the transistor trick and I am glad I am not the only one that has noticed an improvement in exhuast noise. I thought it was just me?! Well anyways I got some tuning to do on mine and am considering going to just straight premix to cut down on the smoke during hard accelleration and startup. My Holley setup is running a bit rich and also I have the OMP on full directly into the primary float bowl on the Holley. So yeah... I get some smoke with how much oil it is mixing into the fuel. I ideally would like to run oil injection how kettlman did his and tap 2nd gen OMP nipples (... Ha Ha I said nipples!) into the front and rear rotor runners in my intake manifold. Either that or I can figure out a way to fashion my oil oil metering rod connector like racingbeat. Coat hanger or weling rod...? Any how if you get a chance to run 2gdfis or want to do it DO NOT HESITATE! I guarantee you will not regret it!

city driving for me is low 20's and highway (is what i do most of the time) high 20's, i also have 2gdfis, and my carb is running rich. but i somewhat baby it, most i shift at is 3.5k, every once in a while i redline.
