In the first pic you can see where i cut out around the heater controls and screwed the sheet metal back together.

second pic. plastic cutout. and the last pic is the little support for the back i made out of some aluminum bar. i just bent it and rivited it to the cdplayer jacket, and bolted it to the frame at the bottom.

For the top i rivited the old tab that held up the stock radio to the jacket. so it just slides it. This is obviously NOT the most secure install. but its fuctional. i hope that helps.
Nice and secure. I'd love to see a thief's face after he tries to get that one out.

I like your car - looks evil!
Do I detect a little Photoshop to tweak the ride height there?
How have you got that gauge in the center of the steering wheel wired up?

I then hooked up a newer stereo, placed it on the metal shelf and put the face plate back on. You can't get it out through the hole so it will never get stolen and the opening is big enough to reach all the buttons and fit a CD through. It isn't flush forward of the hole, but back a half an inch or so.

I don't have any pics, but it looks fine and I haven't done any damage.
Many people choose this route, but there area few reasons i decided to take the time to cut it out. Obviously, it looks better. I didnt want to have a big empty hole, or two radios in the car, or make another panel. Another reason is that its above the shifter, its easier to see, and to use. Which wont matter much to the s2 people, since the shifter is further back.

When i cut out the hole for the face. I made it just big enough for the flip down to go through, not the whole cd player. But seriously, if someone wanted to jack your cd player, they are not going to have a problem breaking the plastic, or if the're a nice thief, removing the 2 screws

anyway, It looks like its SUPPOSE to be there. and not just a shortcut. I'll probably add some more brackets to it when i replace my dash to make it more secure. whenever that is.

P.s. Your interior looks awesome Luim73. Very modern, but still very subtile. I dig the silver gauge surround. oh yeah.. and the rest of the car, of course.
