SA front calipers hard to find
I am refurbing my brakes and the front calipers could be R&R except I don't have the
rubber pieces that seal the caliper slides. So I thought I'd just get some new/reman
calipers for my 1980 SA. Well, a lot of places have the left caliper but not the right.
Even rock auto. At least for the semiloaded or semiloaded with bracket. I don't want
loaded because I have the pads I want already. Arrgggh!
Fair warning, these things are getting harder to find.
I wonder if the dealership would have those rubber seals for the slides? I have the
rebuild kit but those only have the boot and seals for the piston.

The official name for this is the caliper boot kit. Used be available from
Mazdatrix and Mazda. Probably NLA at this point. They must come from
somewhere because the remans all have them.
Heres the link to the trix webpage that used to have them:
Front Brakes, Rotors, Hubs, Calipers.
At the bottom, its the 81-85 12A boot kit. It would work on the SA as
well looking at the parts.
If anyone knows where I can get these let me know. I'm going to call
some stealerships around here and see if they have some stashed
away somewhere.

My local dealership told me I got the last set of these in US inventory when I did my brake rebuild several years back. I don't know if that was a fact or not, but it took them about two weeks to scrounge them up for me.
My originals had essentially rotted to pieces.

I have an AdvAuto right up the street. Walked the dog up there and asked them for the calipers.
They showed some but not in the store (of course!). When he went to see where he could get them there
were none in the AdvAuto system anywhere.

like heat fatigue mostly. The large one that slides through the caliper is ok and
just has some stress marks where its close to the metal.

the kit, 8341-49-250 is NLA, the boots separate 8341-33-698 and 8341-33-692 are also NLA from Mazda.
however we've discovered that Sumitomo made the calipers, so there must be some other car that used the same boots/hardware.

Atkins for the win! Not cheap but they still have the caliper boot kit as pictured. I bought 2 of em
and maybe I'll snag some SA calipers to recondition so I have another set ready next time I do
brakes.

See, this why I ordered mine BEFORE I sent out the post on em. I know all SA owners
are secretly parts hoarders. Its a survival instinct for these cars.
Atkins will probably sell out at this rate and wonder what hit em! Get while you can!
