S5 TII ecu without electric metering pump?

i think for lack of money change my objective to drop a s5 TII with its ecu, not a stand alone. ive read about the ecu running "on limp mode" if it doesnt get the reading it wants from the electric metering pump. and you cant fit the s5 electric omp to the GSL-SE front cover? (you use the GSL-SE front cover...right?) is there any way to get around this or does:

s5 TII in a first gen = stand alone?

"Cant" is determined only by creativity and $$$.

The S5 OMP can be fitted to the SE front cover with some work. The SE front cover can be built up with aluminum weld(heli-arc),then machined down and tapped to accept the 3 bolt pattern of the S5 OMP.Thats how I did mine.
Its not easy, but most good machine shops could handle it.Its a lot easier than trying to break the code in the S5 ECU that activates the limp mode for the OMP's presence.
The alternative is to run a S4 mechanical OMP and S4 throttle body, then plug in the S5 OMP and tie it off to the side somewhere.I did that for a month or 2 until my SE front cover was ready. You could also pre-mix and block off the OMP hole with a plate. The S5 OMP doesnt have to be actually delivering oil,it just needs to be plugged in and taking commands from the ECU.

how long does it take to fit the gsl-se front cover to a electirc OMP? id be getting it down so if labor isnt that much, id rather do that instead of premix. but if i have to premix, i will

For a good machine shop,it shouldnt take more than a couple hours labor. Most shops in CA get about $80 an hour.Mainly it just takes a skilled hand.Aluminum is tougher to work than iron, and care has to be taken not to warp the cover while building it up. After that, its just general machine work to mill the pad to the correct height and drill/tap the 3 holes. Its also much easier to do if they have a stock S5 front cover to look at, as an example for the final product.
Keep in mind also, that by running the larger electric OMP,you are blocking off the convenient turbo oil drain spot. You have to run the oil drain to either the pan(OK,but kinda low and messy) or to the cover's front corner, ahead of the OMP.This is ideal because its higher up and the frothy oil can de-areate above an aftermarket oilpan baffle plate(RB).But you must be careful when drilling and tapping this spot because its thin.Use thread sealer on the fittings and tap carfully as to not strip the delicate aluminum.

It may also be possible to run with an S4 ECU. Just find out if you need to swap any pins in the ECU connector and you may need to use an S4 AFM.

Check with Henrik over in the 2nd gen forum. He may have the ECU chip cracked and be able to burn one for you.

Scott

You can run a S5 block with S5 turbo and manifolds with a S4 ECU and AFM.I did it for a while before getting everything straight for the S5 ECU swap.Ran fine, even with the streetport and higher comp rotors.
There are some different values between the S4 and S5 input/ouput components. It would be safest to keep all the S4 sensory equipment if you decide to run a S5 engine with S4 electronics.Youll get the better flow and higher compression of the S5 engine, but the simpler swap of the S4 OMP and ECU.The S5 computor is faster and more refined, but the S4 will still make good power in a light 1st gen.
