S5 T2 alt ?
ok, so I have an '82 rx-7 and would like to (kinda need to replace anyway so why not) upgrade the alt to the S5 t2 alt. this is an 80 amp alt right? what all would I heed to do to get this accomplished? Just a slight wireing mod right? shoud be a direct bolt on otherwise? what exactly am I going to need to ask for at kragens or autozone? just an 89 t2 alt? what is the S5?
sorry for all of the questions, but this is the first car I have had that I took an interest in fixing myself (last car was brand new, and had a warranty, as well as a service plan) so thank you all for the help.

I'm going with S6 Alternator!
The S4 alternator (70 amps) is a direct drop in.
For the S5 (80 amps) you will need to add a wire from the battery + directly to the alternator S terminal. This wire will replace the connection normally used on the S3/S4 R terminal. The S5 and S6 alternators expect to see battery voltage even when the car is off. If you don't wire this correctly the battery will get drained when sitting for extended periods of time.
A better option is to order silverrotor's S6 alternator (100 amps) upgrade for the S4, it's $183.83 USD shipped. You can get single or double pulley on the alternator.

HTH,
Scott
p.s. Oh yea, S3/S4/S5/S6 are the Rx-7 series number,
S3 = 84-85
s4 = 86-88
S5 = 89-91
S6 = 93-95
see more info on this in the FAQ section.
