S4 13B into my dads FB

Ok so my dad has a 85 or 84 GSL(more than likely an 85) that is in very very good condtion except the fact it has a blown apex seal. He put the car in the backyard, bought a 01 mx-5 and never touched it ever since. I got a rebuilt S4 13b with weber dcoe 48 CARB,brand new exedy clutch, racing beat header, accel ignition, external fuel pump. I was gonna put it into my project fc but i realized it would be nicer to swap it into my dads FB to have an actual driveable car. I dont know to much about FB parts and how universal they are like fcs. What parts would i need to swap this engine into it to get a soild running car?

Same parts you need for a TII swap, without the electronics. Since you are going carb, use a 12A front cover, easier/cheaper to find, and an SE oil pan. Upgrade ful pump and fpr of cours.

Why a 12a front cover? Dont i need a special plate to mount the engine? Also can i just use the GSL oil pan? The external fuel pump i got is rated for the dcoe 48 and dont need a FPR so Im good on that. Also will this engine bolt up to the stock tranny? Im not sure about all these things so sorry about all the questions.

The 12a front cover is needed in order to use the stock mounting points. IDK if this is true w/ all 13b motors but the one I put in mine did not have the necessary bolt patern for the stock mount. Trans should bolt up w/ no problem. You need the oil pan because with the 12a cover your pan bolt do not line up. You can weld up a 12a pan and drill it to fit but it's much easier to just get the SE pan. This is my experiance with my swap. Good luck.

12A or SE front cover, FB engines were mounted from the front plate.

GSL oilpan is too short (12A)

A Gsl-Se oil pan. You will need to bend or modify the front mount because of the longer lenght of the 13b motor. Also you need a FPR no matter what your pump is rated at.

All of these common questions are either in the FAQ or Archives.

ok cool guess i will try and get one. How much can i get that pan for used? And does anyone have detail on how I would go about modifying the front mount so i dont have to buy that part. Also the pump i got is this one in the link below, it states that it does not and should not use a FPR.

1st question. Place a WTB ad, then that will be answered.
2nd question. Do a search, it has been covered as I explained in my previous post.
3rd. Try it and see how it runs.

I suggested the 12A front cover be cause the mop has 2 lines, which will go to the carb. If you choose to go with an SE front cover, you can hook up the other 2 mop lines to the oil injectors on the block, your option.

Sorry for the jack, but trochoid what if one were to have the 12a cover with the MOP lines conected to injectors on the block? Forsee any problems?

Ok so I searched and found nothing for customizing the front mount. Does anyone know a link or have specs with pics on how to do this?

Its simple, just change front covers and it will bolt right up. the omp lines is no big deal if you premix.

Customizing the front mount is no big deal... when you go to put it in the holes will be off by about 3/4". You can fix it with a cutting tool of your choice. Or if you don't trust that, you can get a part from Mazdatrix that will make it line up, or you can get a GSL-SE subframe if you can find one. Pics, don't have those, sorry.
