RX Tuner project SA

That's right, RX Tuner magazine has acquired a '79 and will be taking on the project for a magazine build-up. But this isn't going to be like anything you've ever seen before. Shane at Rotaryworks will be building the block for this project, and after dicussions, we've narrowed it down to two choices. So I'm starting a poll, and whatever wins, will be what we go with.

The choices are:
1) Ultimate 12a - re-doweled with a bridge and 9.4:1 rotors.
2) 13B-RE - street port, 2mm seals, and 9.0:1 rotors

With either option, it will be turbo and it will be fuel injected. Also with either the goal will be 400 at the wheels, no less. So I'll save my own personal opinions and let you decide

The motor is just step one. We're talking pretty big for the project right now. Things like a custom IRS setup for the rear suspension will be unique, and a challenge. But that's what it takes to be magazine material, right?

So let's hear it, vote and give us your thoughts.

Neat.

Do me a favor: Put a miata IRS in, 2nd gen front-end. OR, for the price of parts Federico Kustoms-Unlimited will do it and let you write an article on it.

I might even subscribe.

Who is Federico Kustoms-Unlimited?

We're planning on an IRS, rack steering, custom turbo and manifolds, and full stand-alone. And why haven't you subscribed already? You missed the Old School issue ...

I'm just finishing my TII swap (used to have 12A/mikuni/RB exhaust) so this might sound weird, but I'd prefer 12A. Don't really know why, but I just would like to see how you push such a small engine to such power. Of course the 13B is hardly larger, but with the 12A it'd be a tuned first gen RX-7 engine, with the 13B, it'd be just another engine-swap.

Ya, i want to see a really nice clean 12a with a turbo, fuel injected with the twm throttle body and custom AL top hat. Aus rotary sells the whole kit. t04 60-1 turbo, with custom SS manifold, GT waste gate, microtech ltx8. Must be full bridge port with large street port. Make sure they take good pics of the ports. full gc coilovers with g-force trilink rear suspension and panhard bar. there is a local gsl-se that has that suspension and beats the nationaly competetive turbo miata, both cars on slicks. the se has stock engine too. very impressive. should be an ausome car, and i look forward to seeing it in there.

I'll jump on the 12A bandwagon...
I prefer my 12A to my SE, and I intend to make something huge out of my '81 12A anyway :-)

I think I'll be subscribing as well and waiting anxiously for this article :-)

After three hours at U-Haul getting the hitch installed on the minivan of love, we headed up to Mazdaspeed7's house in Savannah (a two hour trip.) It's been a very long day and I just wanted to let everyone see the SA. It's going to need front end work to fix some cancer, but overall the car is very straight and those beautiful rear tails are in great shape.

Do a 12A! Or as Carl suggested, if it's going to be a 13B, make it a Renensis. The 13BRE swap has been done many times over.

Does this mean he's no longer banned? That's the same Shane S. of Middleburg, FL that had the Forum name jabbasbmfrx7 that got banned last year, right? Poor guy...he's one of the good guys, glad to hear he's back...and we're all dying to see a 12A built to 400rwhp so you don't have to change front covers and get a new oil pan, etc, etc....just a straight drop in after she's built...which will kill Shane since he's definitely an REW guy...

The Renesis was our other choice. The original list was N/A 20b, Renesis, 13bre, or 12a. The 20b and Renesis were either way out of our budget or unavailable. I agree with everyone that is should be a 12a. My preference was a Jspec 12a and return the car to original stock condition--I was easily convinced that we should make it a monster.

Oooh, those tail lights!
