i have a 87 N/A and i raced 92 5.0. i beat it off the line and up until third i was winning. when he got to third, he passed me out and beat me by about 1 and a half car length.

Do you have a GSL or GSL-SE? If you have a GSL-SE you will should get a jump off the line if you're a decent driver but then the mustang will probably pull away by at least 4 car lengths seing how your car is stock. If you have a GSL you will probably lose by a lot. I no expert I'm just basing this on my experiences with the car mentioned. Good luck though!

I don't think there was a Cobra in 1990?

Anyway, hatchback GTs are kinda heavy, so I'd say you lose by about 3-5 carlengths if your motor is in good shape. Throw some exhaust and a carb on that thing and whoop his ***

I wanna see a mustang run on 70 cu in motor? LOL

I wanna see a mustang to 9,000 rpm.

I wanna see a mustang look better than my car does...

LOL

never could find any V8's to take me up on tach races. Hold the gas pedal steady at 7 or 8k rpm.. LOL

there was no gt cobra, no such thing. period. they only made the fox body cobras in 93, the last year they were made. hmm but how bad will you beat him.... if he called it a 90 gt cobra you should spank his 4 banger with gt badges lol. although the 4 cyl's 2.3 has a liter on your car, its weak, big time weak. gimme some more info on what kind of car it really is and i can give you some more info.

man i hate that crap. people say "yeah ive got a 5.0" assuming that 5.0 means a fox body stang, when in reality it refers to the 302 they dont have. makes me wanna slap em. very hard

Tell him you get to pick the road. Pick one with lots of curves. You'll win hands down. Drag racing is over-rated.

Practise a few different launches, Find the rpm do drop the clutch on that will give you the best results. Make sure you don't just sit there peeling out while the mustang pulls away. A stock 5.0L is the same thing, make him nervous and this way he'll mess up a shift or just cook his tires at the start. He has the advantage at the moment see if he'll give you a car lenght lead, if he talks big he might do it, to try and show off...... he'll lose of coarse.

Here are some tricks..... that may help you win:

*Make sure you have 1 quarter tank of gas in your car.
Less gas the lighter you are, faster you go.

*remove un-nessesary junk for the race -spare tire
-speaker box
-etc.

*ADVANCE your timing, if you don't know how go to a rx7 shop.

*I ajusted my trottle cable, so I just tap the gas and the rpms shoot up high. (you have to get used to it)

*remove 10 psi from your rear tires, this will make them grip alittle bit better but they will wear out faster, and **** up you tires if you don't inflate them properly afterwards. (in the long run)

Thats all I can think of without spending money. Kick his ***!!

*Remove passenger seat!! tell him you took it out to clean it,

*make sure your air filter is good, this can cause a huge loss in power.

Okay now I'd done.... Good luck!!

hey gamble actually all the 87-93 gt's were sold as cobras in canada...there was no such thing in canada as a 87-93 gt..does it make the car any different then a gt no....it is just wut ford decided to market them as in canada......2.3????? if my car has a 2.3L then i would really like to see a real 5.0 run........rx-7's and supras are the only jap cars i like so don't say that i'm here to start a flame war or anything....i nhate civics and all of the rice rokets which is 1 of the reasons i bought a 5.0 so i can waste pretty much all of them stock
oh btw 3360 pounds really isn't that heavy.i don't plan on destroying ryans car i just plan on beating it...if i win by 1 car lenght or 20 it doesn't matter because a win is a win

RX7-vs 5.0

My advice and personal experience having own several FBs is to get them out of their elements, stay away if possible from 1/4 mile runnings when going up vs v8s, take them on curvy roads or longer runs with some traffic and you'll teach them a lesson or two.
Warning you might hurt their egos...

I agree with Frank, our little REX's aren't the quickest stock to 1320, but you throw in some curves and any other handling challanges and you'll see the cars start to shine.

If you have to race straight line, work on your launch, a good launch vs a bad launch is one of the major factors in winning one of those. After the launch, find the right timing to shift. In my -SE I tend to shift at ~7k and have more success with that than when I shifted at 8k.

Other than that, good luck

arg, dont get the 4 lug cobra r's, its just not right. upgrade brakes and convert to 5 lug before you get new rims, you'll thanks me later. sn95 brakes are wayyyy better and readily available at the junk yard. good luck with a 331 stroker, those are damn nice. expensive as hell but nice. why not just get a 351?

i was originally supposed to put a 351C in with aftermarket heads intake and cam but my dad sold the truck it was in 1 1/2 months before i bought the stang..it supposably put down 400+ rwhp........i will stick with the stroker because i have to change a bunch of **** around to go with a 351.........i am planing on using the stock tranny for prolly 6 months after i put the engine in for the main reason i am only 17 and can't afford everything at once....i can makke just as much power with the 331 anyways with out really having to change all of the mounts and ****.....i plan on runnin a tremec 6 spd with the stroker......i want high 11's on motor

wut kind of stang do u have????
i thought about converting to 5 lug but i alwasy thopught it was expensive

thats my bros gf's page, my bros car is 92 gt vert. pretty sweet. its gettin the tremec 3550 5 speed thats almost bullet proof hehe. got it for like 800 bucks. we're puttin it in this weekend most likely. lets see what else... right now its got the edelbrock performer rpm intake, jba unequal shorties, 3.73 gears, off road h pipe, and dynomax mufflers because it gives a diff sound than flows which everyone has. he just bought a bunch more stuff though, holley systemax intake, aluminum heads, and cam. also goin on pretty soon here. along with an electric fan too of course. same deal with electric fans on stangs, they free up hp big time as do pulleys.

converting to 5 lug is easy and cheap man. just get the front rotors off a lincoln if you dont wanna upgrade it to sn-95 ****, you can use the lincoln calipers and they make a big difference and its cheap. you can get em off any lincoln thats got em really. for the rear, find a ranger or bronco II with 8.8 rear end, and get the axles off the passenger side errrr or was it drivers side, well i dont remember, just take the one thats longer, and of course the drums too cause theyre 5 lug. we got all those parts for less than 150 at the junk yard, and they all bolt right in. its not the most high performance way to do it, but it does make it 5 lug til you can afford bad *** sn95 type stuff.
hes sellin a bunch of stuff check it out:

yeah ive been to a lot of em. dont forget the exhaust though, thats a huge difference over stock. id say if you got intake, exhaust, and gears youd prolly be happy. the vert is 500 lbs heavier than your car and its still so much fun already. i cant wait to get all the other stuff on it. hehe funny how i talk about it like its mine. the cam depends on what you plan on doin

ack, straight lines are cool and all, but the reason i like rx7s is cause theyve got more than just straight lines. youd have to be in a car that handles really well to see why i changed my mind and bought a mazda. nice to see another stang guy around though.

ah man half the fun is gettin on the gas a little when ur almost throuygh the corner and watchin the *** end slide araound(maybe thats why i have no tires?)..there is no where around here to race a road course anyways so a car that handles really well is sorta pointless ANyways....u can make a mustang handle realkly well but i'm not really lokin for that......i like rx7's tghough they are prettty sweet especially the 3rd and 4th gens...i really like the mid 90's and up tt supras to

wut year is ur rx7 gamble?
