RX-7 made me broke, unemployed, and homeless

Ever since I bought my RX-7(about a month now) I have spent every day reading this forum ALL day, and then working on the car until the wee hours of the morning. Needless to say, it has affected my performance at work! I have spent all my money that I have saved up, and 100% of every paycheck on parts, tools and service manuals. I love my new hobby, perhaps a little too much. Today I got fired, because work has become the least of my priorities. My lease runs out at the end of this month, and now I am unemployed, and I do not have enough money for a security deposit on a new place. It is going to be very difficult to find an apartment.
Most people in this situation would be worried, angry, or depressed. As for me, I can't stop laughing. This is a riot. For some reason I think this is the funniest thing that has ever happened to me. Hell, if it really comes down to it, I can sleep in the back of the RX! So laugh with me, or at me, I don’t care. I just felt like sharing what I think is a humorous situation with my fellow 1st gen owners.
P.S. I have only driven the car 0.6 miles since I bought it. I am currently trying to get it to pass state inspection. If I am this obsessed with it without driving it, I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen to my life once its road legal....

That's the spirit! Yes you'll fall in love with your 7 even more when you're driving it! In all seriousness, being moderate and having balance in life is always good.

It's hard to be moderate and have balance when you are well known in your social circle as 'the guy who routinely makes terrible financial decisions'. hehe

Wow dude. These things happen and good luck in finding a new job that you enjoy. You can find a motel/room for short term as long as you have an income. Make finding work your priority and things will come back together.

I got fired once from a job because I was surfing the Rx7 forum.....Blessing in disguise for me though. It made me get off my *** and find a career. I got away from the hourly b.s. and became a cop(I know, it's not a lot of y'alls favorite things, but no popo bashing)......Glad to hear you're still in high spirits about your 7!

Are you serious? My boss doesn't care at all, I do whatever I want when I have nothing to do... I guess you just got to be cool with the boss.

Wow....

Well don't get your priorities too messed up, yes the 7 comes first but these cars are a little on the stuck up side and will no put up with that behavior. She wants a home and to be treated like a queen. So get off your *** and provide for her and she will do the same for you. Then you can be happily married, well that is until another 7 catches your eye.

Good luck getting a new Job and place

It's hard to be cool with the boss if you surf the forum when you HAVE things to be doing! haha I know I am guilty of that one!

Yes, it does get really ******* cold here. That’s OK; I have my 1988 Audi 90 (dubbed the "raudi" or "rowdy" by my friends, something to do with the way I drive) for the winter. I wasn't intending on letting the 7 see any rain or snow. I have a place to store it in the cold months.

Damn that sucks. My baby made me quit a decent paying job ($8 an hour is ok foir a college student) for a job working as an assistant to a True Rotorhead mechanic.

I get paid in parts, knowledge and gas money. Just enough to keep me going.

Suck to hear but I'm sure if you keep the 7 it'll pay you back tenfold. Or you can be a cop.

Good to see the positive attitude and not the usual **** and moan. I completely understand your situation. In the last 5 years, I have built my shop, for the sole purpose of working on 7s, bought 15 of them and 1 old school, and pretty much pissed away my inheritance of 2 generations of working elders in the process. It's now time for me to go back to work, which is the last thing I want to do. Oh well, life goes on. Good luck.

Wrong prorities, the RX-7 is just a car. The gen 1 is an interesting 25 year old model which is a piece of history. Modern cars have improved out of sight. Take the Mazda 3 MPS, a small family sedan, it has a 248hp turbo engine, top speed 148mph and 0-60 in 6.1seconds. Handling and braking are fantastic.

My RX-7 is a hobby, an enjoyable drive, but in reality the car needed much money thrown at it to bring it to a reliable 250hp performer. As a poor student I ran an old sports car and enjoyed every moment both driving it and keeping it going on the road. So I know the temptation.

However, never let your RX-7 become addictive. It's a condition requiring continual and growing injections of time and money.
