I don't know about the gauge, but the carter pump and holley fpr are apparently faily popular. I myself have them. My car did the EXACT same thing after I rebuilt the carb. It would crank and run and then die unless I was pumping the pedal like hell. Then it would backfire and keep going. While I did the fuel pump I also dropped the gas tank and took it to a radiator shop and had them flush it and put an anti-rust coating inside of it. It cost like $150 for the tank cleaing and coating. I would seriously recommend doing this while up grading the fuel pump because the last thing you want is to screw up a $70 fuel pump with chunks of rust from a nasty tank.

BTW since doing the tank and fuel pump on my car it has become my daily driver and runs beatifully.

Well, for the fpr mount there are 2 ways, the right way and the easy way. Seeing how I was just in a rush to get the car running, I did it the easy way. I mounted it in the engine bay, right out of the metal fuel line and just left it supported by the metal line and rubber hose. It works fine seeing how the fpr is really light. Th right is to use the mounting bracket it comes with. It would look better, but would take a little more effort. I would still clean the tank though. My uel filter was clean too, and when I was draining my tank the gas looked fine.... until I got down to the last 3 gallons. about 1/4 lb of rust and about 1lb of what I can only describe as solidified gunk. I was surprised by all the stuff that was sitting in the bottom of the tank. Also, for fuel pump, there are threads that have some nice pictures on where to install it, just search for carter fuel pump, and make sure you use some kind of padding on it because it can be a little loud. Glad I could be of any service and best of luck to you and I hope you ecperience all the joys of driving your 7 soon.
