Honestly i don't have anything against v8 rx7's anymore. I think it could be made faster a lot cheaper,
rotarys are expensive. Not to mention it would be more
fun to drive on the street with all the torque at the foot,
no clutch poping or revving up. I'm at a point right now
where i'm tired of throwing money on my car and it's not
as fast as a v8 rx7 would've been or not as streetable.
Even though i love rotary for it's simplicity and all that
but it's so sensitive to everything, it doesn't like this or
doesn't like that. I still would love to have a monster turbo rotary but it's so damn expensive and you are so likely to run into problems (i can say that from personal experience). I'm not saying that i'm about to go and drop a v8 in my car, i just don't really see much wrong with it anymore. I used to hate it just as much as almost everyone else on this forum, but what can i say truth sometimes does hurt

To each his own.
Once you take a car out of its original form its a bastard. You can drop a big turbo rotory in a gsl-se and its as much of a bastard as a small block 302, just different fathers. Same thing if you take out the recirculating ball and put in a rack and pinion. It may be better in some peoples opinion, but it is still a bastard.
I love my bastard rx7, probably as much or more than most of you rotory guys love your "pure" cars. It is a different car than I started with, but then again if you gut your interior (which isnt worth it to me), your car is a different car then you started with.
I'm not a purist, but I am an enthusiast.

...Where'd you get that from, VB? I read a thread of people complaining about the quality. Justified?

Well put Chrisman1969!
As a matter of personal opinion, I would NEVER put a piston engine into my car, BUT it's YOUR car so you should make it the way YOU want
After my SC conversion, R&P Steering upgrade, Torsen diff swap, and brake upgrade my car will have very little, mechanically, in common with a stock GSL-SE. But hey, it's what I want

Wait a minute here! What's this? Are we starting to agree here? This is no good! There's something to be said for confrontationalism. Let's go back to arguing so we can all just feel better ok?
Toughguy
P.S.- Don't bother looking it up in the dictionary, confrontationalism is a word from my personal vocabulator.

12abridgeport : Sounds like you had a bad experience.
I have had many irretating experiences of failure.(search for my threads on j-bridge)
I`am not going to ditch my rotary about it.You change it,then you will run into problems, its the law of fisics
We have 1 V8 rx7 here, and i`am not choosing his side, but it was done nicelly.
We still dont invite him to meetings.

Getting back to Chris, AFR heads, 10:1 compression and and an aftermarket roller cam is definitely not normal. Most ppl here do the V8 blasphemy because it's cheaper. What you got is a whole different animal together. Nice animal, though....
Hopefully, when Jason brings back the Forum with the new host and servers, they can find the room finally for a V8 corner and keep the non-believers out of the rotationally pure tech corners...

I didn't say anything about ditching it, I know that ones you start modding the car it's not going to be the same. Even with all the trouble i've had with this car and previous i keep on coming back to rotaries, no matter how mad i get at them sometimes. Besides it would be really wastefull to throw all the years of research, experience and $$ just down the drain.

It handles as well as any stock 1st Gen would with 300 ft/lbs and I autoX it on tight courses without any problems. Personally I have noticed very little difference in the handling, certainly not as much as you guys would want to believe. As for drag racing, this car is being built as an open track car. IE it's being built to handle, not accelerate. So far I've been more than pleased with it's performance and anyone near Clemson SC is more than welcome to come out and see the car for yourselves. I race it with the CSCC every chance I get.

Enough.
If you guys want to debate piston vs. rotary again, go do it somewhere else.
Pistonheads - discussion belongs in the Other Engines forum, which you'll notice is under the "performance" section, so don't complain. At least we have a forum for it and pay it some respect.
Rotorites - Let the pistonheads be. If they want to put a boinger in their seven, let them. I don't agree with it, you may not agree with it, but it is THEIR car. Just smile, nod and walk away.
Personally, I find there are enough piston-powered cars out there without taking the rotary engines out of Rx7s. For me it falls under the category of things that don't make a lot of sense to do. Like slapping a big forkin' turbo on a Toyota Echo, or lowering an SUV and putting ground effects and a body kit on it. Does it bug me? yes. Will I start a flame war or an arguement in open forum about it? No. Why?
Because I respect people's decisions.
Remember, in everything in life, you have to respect people's ability to do stupid or non-sensical things. If you don't, it will consume you and drive you crazy. They are happy, so leave them be.
The last thing I say goes for both groups of people here:
It's okay to be proud of what you've got and what you've accomplished, but never, NEVER ****-talk someone elses hard work.
Weight doesn't matter, size doesn't matter, handling doesn't forkin' matter. How you like your car matters.
Everyone just grow up.
Jon
