Okay guys, I'm having an issue. I had a previous thread about me constantly blowing my 20 fuse (engine, under dash). Well, last night I started the car up (been at a friend's house for the past two weeks), and drove it home problem free. It warmed up just fine, killed the choke automatically as usual and idled at about 500rpm.
I was up until about 2 am searching the forum for other possible problems, so on my day off tomorrow I can get under her and check it out. I came across some threads talking about the fusible links. If I recall correctly, these are located on the negative or positive battery cables correct? I have an 85 GSL.
This morning, I go outside to start the car (while it's warmingt up, I step back in to eat breakfast). Just under five minutes later, I step back out and the car finished warming up at about the same time. When I sat in it, I blipped the throttle. VERY briefly my dash lights blinked (not even half a second). Then the car began to idle rough and the rpm's dropped to about 300.
Is there anything else to look at, or that ya'll can reccomend? I noticed a ground wire right there on the left fender close to the battery (is that the one for the battery?). Where else could the other grounds be that I could check? I have the Haynes manual, but I'm denser than a brick in a pool of **** when it comes to a diagram. I have a dremel that I wanna use to get in and clean the grounding spots. I'm not frustrated with the car yet, just like to figure this electrical crap out (still have to replace my clutch).

well, the fusible links have their own panel and that is located on the left of the engine bay near the battery. it is a brown panel. the ground you are describing is the negative battery cable. remopve and clean. they corrode. also, a fusible link can often burn up on the inside, showing no visable damage. sounds like you have an improper grund that is intermittent caused by a dangling wire

thanks for the response. Can I buy these fusible links at a Mazda Dealership? When I searched the forum, everyone jsut talked about picking them up from junkyards, but I'd rather buy it new. BTW, I think I saw the links this morning. Are those the cloth like covered wires(I think there were three of them) that are "looped" in that panel.

they are the cloth covered wires and you can buy them new through www.mazdatrix.com
